Last time, end of 2017, I had a new custom office chair, wireless headset, not bluetooth and a foot rest.
This time the assessor is suggesting a raising desk, a better footrest, neck support, something that stops the chair moving unless released and requested that I'm assigned a perticular desk.
This is going to upset the new seating arrangments for the office as they want them all as hot desks, well mine will be a fixed desk
So, I've found an advantage to PMG!
That doesn't go far against the fatigue and the weakness, but it's something.

It's okay for people that aren't in the office everyday. I think I worked from home maybe 15 days last year and most of that was because my car was off the road. Having to set up a desk and clear it down every day would be a real pain, something else I could use if needed do to the strenght issues I'm getting
Strictly all desks and chairs should be height adjustable in order to obtain the optimum position and the assessor should be pointing out that this is really applicable to "Hot Desking" as each individual has unique requirements.
OH and I should eally have both adjustable as although we are of similar height he has a longer back and shorter legs than I.
Unfortunately desk is fixed height and chair has ceased to be adjustable.
Excellent. I hope others on the forum working at desks take note, since all employers have a duty to make adjustments for their employees who have health issues / disability needs. You obviously work for a company who take their responsibilities seriously. Great result.
I always thought a really good job had to do at least one of three things - give lots of personal satisfaction, be beneficial to others or pay a lot of money. Mine fitted into none of those categories and I disliked every minute of it - though I'm grateful now for the pension I earned there. I'm so glad that I was retired when I became ill as it would have been torture to have to commute to that particular office every day. However I can understand that having a fulfilling job could help alleviate some of the psychological downsides of PMR.
I do enjoy my work, boring foe some, but I like computer related stuff. These days I look after backup and recoveries, but have also done system administration, Solaris back in the day!
Also working with nice people is important, I need social interaction
Pay, well I think I deserve more, bbut then don't we all!
I can't affort to retire, at the moment 1 of my pensions takes a £4k a year hit if I take it now. At least all I need is another 2 years and a few moths and it won't take any hit
Enjoying work is important as so much time is spent there.
At the end of the day I think job satisfaction is number one as far as work is concerned. Then the pay. Analysis shows that companies that keep people for a long period tend to have lower rates as people are happy there. Very important.
I certainly agree about the nice people. The social aspect of working is the only one that I miss. Every week I see my old friend Clare. We met at work and now try to do something interesting every week, though often it ends up with us sitting on the sofa drinking tea. We mainly avoid talking about work and the people we knew, but somehow we occasionally start reminiscing and then it's so hard to stop.
I think hot desking is one of the worst ideas to hit the workplace. How to make someone feel part of a team, hey, spend 30 mins each morning looking for somewhere to sit.
Totally agree. I did actually manage to influence my 'betters' that hot desking wasn't a good plan and every one got their own. I even got a fixed bank of support desks installed too in the end so that those n help desk duty could support each other,
Good on you!!!!! Amex went to a Hot Desk set up and I was able to have a permanent desk as I had neck issues back then (I cant imagine why? Sitting in front of a computer for 50-60 hours a week!) I had the ergonomics team assess my workspace and they gave me cool footrest, and a chair that cost like £2000!!!! I loved my workstation... hated my job and my boss, but loved my desk area! Take whatever they offer you!!!!! xxx
