Just been with my younger friend today who has been diagnosed with leukemia. So upset as I don't think as yet there is a cure for that cancer. I just wanted for all of us on this site that we have Steroids to help us through our pain and it is not a life destroying illness It's hard I know but we survive xx I just think sometimes there are people worse off than us x

I am sorry to hear about your friend. I hope she gets good care. And I agree - if one has to have an illness PMR is about as good as it gets, especially once we get it under control.

I am so sorry about your friend. It really depends what type of leukaemia she has, some subtypes of leukaemia have a cure rate of over 80%. There is also new research going on and things have improved a lot.

Depending on the type of leukemia, the patient's age, general health and other factors, 5 year survival rates are much improved over decades past. There's good reason for hope.

Many courses of treatment aren't as daunting as they once were, either.

As we can all attest, a strong support system is important in recovery from any serious medical condition. Your friend is lucky to have you in their corner.

Best wishes to you both as you navigate your separate paths, and the one you trod together.

So sorry to hear about your friend. I have a friend who was cured and has been so for over 10 years.

Don't give up hope.

My SIL has had leukaemia for 11 years. The treatment has changed significantly over the last years so your friend has a much better chance of survival now.

Other people here sound 'hopeful' and you are clearly a good friend - so with your support and the right treatment the outcome may end up OK - but very upsetting obviously to hear such news and you are right - everything is 'relative' and a lot of us could be 'worse off' - sadly there are many who are. Take care of yourself

The year after my BIL died, aged 49, from cancer, my sister contracted leukaemia. She is completely well and will be 70 this year. Always have faith. Thinking of you. xx

There are a lot of people worse off than us. But when you are in a bad place it’s sometimes difficult to ‘see” that.

Hopefully if it’s been caught early enough the prognosis is not as bad as you may think.
