What happened?

Nothing. Just old and suffering from stress and cold weather. But I unburied the treadmill and fired up Netflix on the laptop for company and the steady paced walk in warm surroundings seems to be helping.

Btw someone suggested "Brain on Fire" as good viewing for people with autoimmune diseases but after watching for about twenty minutes I beg to differ. I switched to The Pyramid Code about ancient technology instead. Much more to my liking. ;)

Oh what a shame. Hope you will soon be hobble-free. Has the moving in finished yet, and are you settled?

Nope. The contractor actually had the nerve to suggest a few days before Christmas that they could cobble together a bathroom and give us a temporary plywood kitchen counter so we could move in for Christmas. Given that there is so much construction rubble in the way we haven't even been able to arrange our furniture or start to unpack I thought he was being plain silly. Fortunately my wonderful son e-mailed him and said we could continue to stay with him (my son) until the place was more suitable for us to live in - hopefully the first week of January. I suppose the contractor thought he was being nice, but it would have been really uncomfortable. I'm not waking up as much in the night with the renovation worry squirrel spinning but it's still pretty stressful. But most of the things needed to complete the work have arrived now, so if they'd just get cracking.... 🔨

How disappointing for you.I do hope things will speed up soon , and it all turns out the way YOU want it. That temporary arrangement, by the workmen, sounds daft. Who knows how long you would've been left like that/? All the very best for 2019.

Thank you. I had an inkling what that deal would mean because some years ago we renovated the bathroom in our house. We were told four days. No one clarified that the four days work would take place over four weeks! The moment they learned we had an emergency toilet in the basement they were packing up their tools and making to leave. I pointed out it was just that - an emergency toilet. We were having to go to my daughter's home in the neighbouring community in order to bathe! They got more serious then and installed a bathtub (which turned out to be the wrong one and defective but that's another story) but that was it for ages.

Hi there Heron. Love the cartoon. Topical and seasonal. Wow, that's a lot of work being done. I hope you get settled in your new digs soon and that it all turns out to your liking. I remember when you announced your plan to move and renovate about five months ago. I believe I said "it all sounds a bit scary to me", after experiencing a major move that didn't include renovations.

Perhaps you should put away that treadmill and relax while you can. 😎

Oh, no, I have to get in my steps - was threatened with osteoporosis if I didn't keep up my exercise!

If I'd known how long the renos would take I'd have said we should pass on this unit, which really did require an awful lot of upgrades, and keep looking. It will be nice when it's finished. I do have very particular tastes and just any old thing won't do, but I've always believed you should get the best you can afford and not have to worry about redoing again too soon, if ever. I'm old enough now that whatever we do is likely to see me out!

When I see our new wall colours I'm happy; we chose well. A dark, closed in space is now light and airy and even joyful. If other things work out as well we should feel very comfortable and at home.

You make me feel guilty. I should be getting those weight bearing steps in too. I've made myself a promise to start at it slow and easy in the new year. It will definitely be slow because we're on a hilltop with a rather rough and ready road down to any sort of paved road. It's also pretty hot here after 8 am so it will have to be an early morning walk.

I do a bit of a workout in our little pool every day, but I know that doesn't qualify as true weight bearing.

It's great to hear that things are coming together as planned for your new home. I have a feeling it will look pretty amazing when you're all finished. In the meantime please take care of yourself.

So sorry about your hobble but love the picture you've put up. Think you've made the right decision re the completion of renovations- so good your son happy for you to stay there. You sound more relaxed Heron. Xx

I was a bit ticked a couple of hours ago when I grumbled to the contractor and he responded by saying the delay was caused by my choice of products. I wrote a cranky email back which I didn't send and deleted, but - really?

Anyway our conversation continued in a more positive vein, discussing "finishing touches". It will take a while to reach that point, but they are now in sight. :)

I remember the time we were getting a stone wall rebuilt. I was furious with hubby when he gave the workers beer before they were finished. The rest of the work was not nearly such good quality. Men! 🙄
