BIRD FEEDER

β€’22 Replies

As requested picture of the Feeders I have as the plastic that encloses the seed is strong and more robust than the one I spoke about in the earlier reply to Estellemac. I buy my seed monthly, delivered, from a local supplier. Different (varieties) in 1kg bags for the different birds. They eat better than me!!πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

So do mine!

Am sitting in garden with blue tits, sparrows, male blackbird, robin, collared doves and pigeons looking for tea.

Have thwarted the pigeons by removing the spill tray they used to perch on under the feeder - eating too much! Now they have to wait for the smaller birds to have their fill and spill some, which they invariably do!

Had a baby robin in the kitchen the other day - flew in the door and tried to get out of closed window! Did my Chris Packman act and rescued him, he flew off quite happily.

Oh I am so pleased that you rescued the Robin without it getting hurt. They are so friendly, I have one every morning who practically takes the food out of my hand, it can't wait Besides all the various seeds, I buy the cheap scones from Aldi and crumble one of those every morning. I don't mind the cost as the pleasure they give me is priceless. I have just had my kitchen door open whilst preparing my tea and the birds are chattering away and the baby birds tweetering, it's so lively and so relaxing - just have to stop and listen.

Yes you do have to stop and listen.

I’ve only got a small garden but have tried to make it as bird and insect friendly as I can. Plenty of thick shrubs for birds to hide in when necessary; a half barrel sized tub of wild flowers plus grasses etc.

I can watch little birds for ages, they are so industrious.

Yes industrious is a great word for birds.

Just spent a pleasant hour lying in my gravity chair (the French one) which is fantastic. Looking up at the blue sky with red kite and swifts flying around. Lovely smell of roses, blackbirds singing, collared doves making that awful crewing sound!

Almost heaven.....❀️

Love that wall Dot. You don't have a problem with squirrels then with that plastic feeder!!

We have put a baffle on our feeder, stops the squirrels a treat!!

in reply to

Yes there are squirrels but as this and my other seed feeders have a strong clasp top they can't get in them, however, I do have other feeders of a fine mesh type that I put peanuts in and the squirrels have at times managed to get the top off these and helped themselves (cheeky things).

I could spend hours watching our bird feeders! We have tits, bull, gold and green finches. Plus blackbirds, robins and dunnocks!! They all like what they like!! We put out sunflower hearts mealworms and a suet block. We now have a woodpecker after the suet!! The pigeons March round the base looking for titbits!! We have jackdaws nesting in our chimney and they push their luck, I shoo them and magpies away, they frighten the smaller birds.

Considering we live on the edge of a city, we have some amazing wildlife, foxes regularly cross our garden too!!

Live on the edge of Brum. Amazing birds & wildlife here too. The crow & magpie extended families join forces to repel seagulls who trail high in the sky like B52's & spot any morsel chucked out. Big crow family scrap last year the winner emerged with a damaged wing. He still rules the roost round here. We call him Big Tony! (Soprano). Rare to see a Jackdaw, Jay or Greenfinch now. We have had the occasional Parakeet,Goldcrest & Sparrowhawk. As you say it's great to watch.

Yes QE for me. Think I know all the staff there with my various conditions over the past few years. The consultant I seen was Dr.Jobanputra. Very good hospital in my experience. Under a lot of pressure though.

Same here, respiratory and gastro are 2 more I attend. I have mostly had good treatment. It's a victim of its own success as they have patients referred from everywhere in UK.

I have a gravity chair in the Garden best spot for watching the birds. It is PMR friendly too. I think the peace and tranquility also adds to pain relief for a short time. I marvel everyday at the amazing world we live in. Just taking time to enjoy nature is something I have been too busy to do during my working life. A positive side to this debilitating illness I suppose?

Yes agree - lovely to listen to birds. Also had alarm on phone to get up to take Pred, which was the sound of birds singing.I thought this would be less obtrusive but come the spring the birds would sing before my alarm and I was getting the two mixed up. Have had to change the alarm to more normal " alarm" sound !!!

I love birds. Have been an avid birder since my 20’s. In our senior community we had to take down bird feeders due to rats. Some gals still throw out a handful of seeds which are eaten right up. In the tree right in front of my balcony was a nest of hummingbird. It was so tiny. My next door neighbor has a feeder for them and it is wonderful watching them.

When I had my home with three separate gardens I FED a variety of birds. One migratory month I had over 30 varieties visit my feeders.

I wanted to know if any of the birds returned daily so I put some seed in front of my greenhouse door and shooshed them inside. I had three House finches and I painted each of their toes one red then orange and raspberry. My son figured I was nuts hehehe... the birds showed up everyday.
