Very dry skin

Hi - I know this is trivial by comparison - but I have very dry skin at the moment.

I know it can be a sign of inflammation but I feel like I am going fairly well at present. I am currently on 7/6mg alternating days.

I also have hypothyroidism.

Your GP can prescribe Double Base Gel for 'skin thinning because you are on pred.

If they will prescribe it, some do and some don't.

Celtic, another GCA patient told me about this and I used it straightaway.

I did get it on prescription, but then just bought it Over the Counter.

Now 11 years down the line and coming up to 7th in remission, my skin is still good at 80.

Follow the instructions to the letter.

I have an underactive thyroid too and my skin is permanently dry. Good thing ... I don't get spots, not so good thing.... having a snow storm when I take things off 🌨️

The DoubleBase jinasc recommends is excellent - or the alternative product range Diprobase. It is an emollient which you use straight after a shower while the skin is still damp, it keeps the moisture in. Avoid soap products - anything that foams will strip the natural oils in the skin - and there are Doublebase products for cleansing I think.

As already mentioned Doublebase is excellent for dry skin, I've used it for 25 years, can't use soap either so wash in Dermol 500 - both are prescribed. The Dermol can be used for showering and as a moisturiser if you have no other moisturiser but not as nice as Doublebase. I strongly suggest you don't use soap products, even the over the counter ones that say so are no good for me. I get compliments that my skin is good - no wrinkles and 70 this year.
