Update on Hubby

My OH was moved today to a specialist Stroke Unit in Chippenham. Lovely new place with his own room and TV and view of a garden. He is improving slowly, feeling coming back into his left arm, still only got sight on the right side, and speech very slow and quiet. He has remembered how to use his mobile phone and called me 3 times yesterday including I at midnight!! Starting more therapy tomorrow, and staying positive. No visitors allowed in mornings, so I can get a rest.

Good news about hubby, sure he’ll improve day by day.

Hospital visiting is very tiring for visitors and patients alike, so although open visiting sounds good in theory, and is obviously needed in some case, a more limited time is better. Plus you don’t feel so guilty for not being there all the time - hopefully you can build in a bit of “me” time - that seems to go out the window when a loved one is hospitalised.

So glad to hear that OH has been moved nearer to home in Chippenham as you’d hoped, Marcimay - less travelling thus not quite so tiring for you. Hopefully, each day will be a better day for him with the therapy working its magic - his progress sounds good so far. All good wishes.

Well done Marcimay and well done your hubby - he looks a dear. I have heard that you can get a bit depressed after a stroke - is it any wonder. Bit by bit he’s coming back from it. He will appreciate the better surroundings. I hope someone is giving you hugs and support. These are hard days and nights.

Such good news that he's talking enough to phone you!! Hoping things continue to improve each day and week. Has he a hobby that uses his hands? A friend who has had a stroke has just started to knit again - very slowly, but she's getting there.

Fingers on left hand not functioning yet, we have been playing dominoes to get him to move his head to the left so he can see more. Tingling and nerve pains in left arm show that something is happening.

It's good to hear he is doing better and the rehab units are usually great. He actually looks well but I don't know how he normally looks.

How are you body wise? Any increased pain ...fatigue understandable. I only had 2 hospital appt yestday and was shattered after finding parking spaces etc. Your husband has people helping him now so make sure you do rest in the morning.

The picture of hubby was taken a few weeks ago, before the stroke. I wanted to take one yesterday to send to the children in Scotland, but he didn't want me to.

Gosh, life does pile it on sometimes, doesn't it. My heart goes out to you, in that situation.

But a specialist Stroke Unit sounds like a good place for him to be. Excellent news that he is making progress. Hugs and very best wishes to you both.

I am so pleased that your husband is doing so well and that he is receiving such good care in the stroke unit.lt must be a great comfort for you to receive calls from him.
