Hi, I was just wondering if anyone else gets stys in their eyes.
I have been diagnosed with PMR for over a year now and this is the second time I have had a sty (both in the same eye) since being on prednisolone. Is this common and does anyone have any good ideas how to treat them.
Thanks all

Hi. PMR 12/2016. Started on 20mgs DR Pred. At 6 tapering to 5.
I’ve had several sty’s. Mostly at around 15-13 mgs. I have a long history of blepharitis and have been diagnosed with dry eyes. So I have had stys before Pred/PMR too. But not as frequently. Allergies and dry weather make me more prone to stys.
I try to wash my eyelids every day, several times. I find a cleansing bar called vanicream is gentle enough for me to use on my eyelids. Most convenient way for me to keep up the regimen.
Warm water. I have also used cosmedic rounds, 100%cotton, one for each eye, with hot water. Warmth removes the crust and opens the pores at the bottom of the lashes.
Yes ..for me never in my life and now 2 proper styes since on 10 mg Pred. Warm to hot as you can take without burning of course soaks ...4 times daily if u can. The more the better. Expect 2 weeks minimum to drain then stays red with a bump for sometime. For preventing them.. like another post recommended.. wash eye every am and pm with a no tears baby shampoo all across upper and Lower lids. I never knew that a stye could be such a pain for sure. It seems to be working for me. Good luck!
I've had a few styes whilst on Pred. They're uncomfortable and may need antibiotic treatment if not cleared up with bathing in boiled (cooled) water as recommended above. Now one time I did manage to clear up my stye by rubbing a gold ring on it... yes a gold ring. No scientific proof this works, but in the old days you could buy Golden eye from the chemist, not anymore, don't know why but perhaps it had gold in it. Just thought I'd share this bit with you. Hope they clear up soon. Obviously take extra care not to rub and infect other eye. Best wishes.
