What appointment update

Further to my earlier post, I got to talk to Salisbury Hospital Admin today. I appears the appointment is for my husband, he had one cancelled back in Jan. He never rec'd the appointment this time, so we have had to re-book it for July 23rd. Happy days.

Oh dear! It doesn’t fill you with great confidence, does it?

I hope they at least acknowleged their error? (They didn't I assume?) I like your style though - straight to the top!

That’s a good one!

I informed everyone I could think of at the hospital (verbally and in writing) that I was going to be out of UK for 3 months so not to add me to surgeons list, and if necessary to contact by email.

What happened? when I got home I had three letters -a. I’m on the list, b. we’ve been trying to contact you & c. you’re off the list!

My Aries head blew!

Apparently, all my fault - I should have rung admission before I went to tell them directly. As my appointment with surgeon was only the day before I flew, what would have been the point? My info wouldn’t have got through system, and they would have said ‘sorry can’t do anything until we’ve got surgeon’s referral”.

It’s taken a month to sort out, new referral required(!) but they have very kindly backdated my referral to the day I arrived back in UK.

Whoopee!

My husband had a similar issue when he was waiting for a new hip a couple of years ago. He had an appointment sent for when we were going to be in the US for Christmas. He rang up and told them straight away. Later when he rang up to find out where he was on the list he was told he had been put to the end because he'd 'missed' an appointment. Luckily it was soon sorted with the consultants secretary and he was restored to his rightful place. Apparently 'the computer' doesn't distinguish between the two. This may be as a result of the huge political pressure to reduce waiting lists without any extra funding to allow them to do so.

That certainly doesn’t help, but apparently the appointments team don’t see your file, they just react to surgeons referral.

But, his secretary sees the file and obviously saw my letter, so is it too much to expect her to be proactive and mention it? Obviously it was a step too far! If I’d been his secretary I would have flagged it up, but perhaps it’s a generational thing? Or am I being harsh?

Anyway, no matter now, but I was annoyed at the time!
