Yes definitely!

I agree totally.

In fact my wonderful GP himself a man, said that the British Medical Association admits this itself! He explained that heart disease in particular is vastly under-diagnosed in women in the UK and it's purely sexism. He explained that If a chap goes into a surgery complaining of chest pains he is taken in hand immediately... If a woman does the same the overwhelming chances are she will be fobbed off & accused of over-reacting! He himself was very disgusted at the statistics and said there was huge room for improvement.

Uh huh. And it wasn’t that many years ago that they ‘noticed’ that women present differently when having a heart attack.

Yup - and I have suggested to quite a few people they take a partner, preferably male, to vouch for them. Even if they just sit in the corner it seems to concentrate the doctor's mind - and even if they are a female doctor sometimes. Actually sometimes women doctors are even harder on their female patients - which I do struggle with!

It's wrong - but if it helps...

It smacks of “Honestly, doc, she’s not just being hysterical”. Doc: “ok, I’ll believe you (but not her”).

I also didn't know that women had been excluded from clinical trials.

And it made me wonder if we are or should be about circling back to those docs that missed diagnosed us with a “Hey, doc, remember when you said I just needed to get more sleep? Well, what I really needed was 15 mg of Prednisone for a disease that you missed.”

This article poked at my anger button - probably because of how many times we’ve heard similar srories here.

I know what you mean - but honestly it IS getting a teensy weensy little bit better. Because those of us who know are telling those who DON'T know and arming them with the info they need to be informed patients.
