Could psychosis be an autoimmune disease?BBC IPLAYER

Just for interest. Professor Belinda “ Pred head “sorry! Of Oxford University has done a small study with patients that presented with psychosis - hearing voices, visual hallucinations, paranoia etc. She tested their blood and found anti bodies that were attacking the patients’ immune System ( sorry for the poor scientific explanation PMRPro). The blood plasma of these patients was washed and exchanged with donor blood products. Then the patients were given STEROIDS ( I know, psychosis) to prevent more anti bodies being formed. All of her small group recovered from psychotic symptoms ( bar one who didn’t finish the course of steroids).

To see her explain this better than I can go to BBC IPlayer with the title of this post.

The most exciting research in psychiatry is being done in this field.

It made me feel that science is getting closer to understanding autoimmune diseases. Also mental health. Hopeful!

BBC iPlayer is racist - UK only...

in reply toPMRpro

It's even more annoying when you have a tv licence and travel to Europe and can't access it.

Actually it’s to do with paying the licence fee!

I found I couldn’t access it whilst in NZ despite being a previous recipient.

I know why - funny how I can get everything from Germany though...

I pay a licence fee here - and the EU is the EU (still). It's copyright or some such thing. We get UK terrestrial though...

I read about this somewhere recently...but predhead too. Now that's annoying.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!

Young people that I know of download an app that conceals their whereabouts for these purposes. Not that I would condone such an illegal act.
