Hi, I went into hospital this year to have an elective hip op, when the surgeon woke me up he said "sorry when we opened you up it was full of black gunk,so we now have to give you a huge surge of antibiotics, but after 4 days I had my hip put in &was sent home. 5 days later it burst open & I was "out of it ",I was told if my daughter hadn't got me to a hospital quick I would have died, they cleaned it out, it was Sepsis, I was put on antibiotics that didn't suit, it was the worst 9 days of my life, I was switched to my local hospital where I was for 4months,trying out different antibiotics, they went into my wound for the 4th time to put a spacer in filled with antibiotics and I still have no hip

Hip infection
Oh Dear Lord. What suffering, both emotional and physical. I shudder to think of it. It sounds like pure torture.
I hope that the worst is over for you and that once fully stabilized they can give you the hip you need.
I’m so sorry to hear that you have had such an awful time. Thinking of you
Well that sounds like poor management! How on earth did they get you to surgery without realising your joint was infected. You should definitely complain.
Do you have PMR or GCA Julie_mia4 ?
Oh my, so sorry to hear this. The same thing happened to a friend’s husband. He went a while without the new hip n when it was totally healed they finally gave him his new hip. He is doing much better n back to work. Also I got one of these super-bugs n was put on wrong antibiotic. Five years later am paying for it! The PMR certainly compromises our situation doesn’t it? Please take care and know that I wish you well. maryanne
What nightmare for you. Shocking! Where was this operation carried out? All the best for your recovery.
