Has anyone heard that wheat products cause your autiomune system to fail and cause illnesses like PMR?

Hi young, YES! I have been told by a Nutritionist and my Osteopath about the sometimes negative effects of wheat on the body and its ability to cause inflammation. This was prior to my PMR/GCA diagnoses, so I nothing specific to PMR/GCA. There is a ton of stuff on Google and I had excellent article that I will send if I can find it. I have tried to be wheat free since November and if nothing else, I had lost 6 pounds and have had many less digestive problems!

Anything is worth a try. Quite often, I have no appetite for anything other than toast with lots of grains. It has been like that since not long before I first got PMR close tom3 years ago.

I was gluten free before it started and had a very healthy diet. I really do think that these illnesses are a complicated mix of factors including mental, emotional, diet, genetics etc. I don’t think there’s a magic bullet, but every little helps from all sides.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that at all.

Like Snazzy I was gluten-free before PMR so that didn't play a role - but I DO have an allergy to something in the wheat starch of modern commercialised wheat. I can eat other ancient forms of wheat, spelt, kamit and purpur, rye barley and oats so it isn't a gluten problem. It is acknowledged as a common problem even by mainstream medicine - we just eat far too much of it.

But being a problem does not necessarily mean it is the cause of autoimmune disorders.
