Hi Amber,

Pred is the only drug that will relieve PMR pain,

Are you saying you are still in pain now that you are on Pred, if so then maybe you are not on a high enough dose, or your body is not reacting to it as well as it should, it’s doesn’t last the full 24 hours or you are trying to do too much.

Most people should get at least 70% improvement on their pain, but not everybody gets 100%. How do feel yours is? Do you have any other issues that might be causing pain - arthritis for example.

Can you give a bit more info, we then maybe can help a bit more.

DL has said it all really. The correct dose of Prednisalone is all that helps and it’s pretty wonderful.

I looked at your previous two posts. It looks like your initial reductions were rather quick and in bigger steps than usually recommended, but you were quite clear that your doctor was giving you good support and would allow you to increase your pred dose if need be. Not sure if anyone suggested the slow taper plans that many of us use? Because really there is nothing besides pred that will work adequately for PMR. If you have pain now, go to the dose which controls the pain, stay there for a couple of weeks (some would say up to a month) and then taper very slowly, perhaps following this plan:

Good luck!

Prednisone is pretty much it as long as you are taking the correct dosage. DL is correct....

Pred - at an adequate dose. Nothing else works for PMR pain. If painkillers work - it probably wasn't PMR. And it is NOT a good idea to mix NSAIDs and pred - can cause gastric problems.

Painkillers don’t work, hence my original question.
