Bed, warmth and some TLC. Maybe inhale some steam. Maybe with some Vick in it. The oldfashioned stuff is as good as anything. No point wasting money on cough medicine. See how it goes - and if you get really yucky phlegm or feel really ill with a temperature, see the doc.

Get well soon!

Hi Ronzy,

I had this for about three weeks in December. PMRpro is right about the steam. I kept a pot going most of the day and frequently took some deep breaths of the steam. Be careful though, that steam can be very hot! Also, I took a couple of hot epsom salt baths a day.

Thanks Karen I know you’re right

It’s such a faf with steam but must make an effort.

Could do with a nebuliser

My sister called it my Nebby bless her.

You got a nebby? My daughter would love one for her asthma - but in the UK they get all huffy. Darn sight faster than other techniques!

Hope you feel better soon, Ronzy. Take good, gentle care of yourself. (For me that would be rest, rest, rest, soup, liquids, a hot shower, a good book, my cat, rest, rest.)

Yes, PMRpro is right. I'm just recovering from this - it's taken 4 weeks just to feel half human again but the old remedies are definitely best in this case. And rest!

Had something very similar and, as usual, found Olbas oil my salvation. You can get it as a portable inhaler or as liquid, which you can put in a steamer or use a few drops on a handkerchief. They used to make pastilles but I can't find these anymore

Hot honey and lemon? Keep warm, steam, vitamin C x

I was going to answer your question to me re Amotryptaline? and say I have had to put it on the back foot due to other issues which were like yours which had been going on for a couple of weeks and then on the Saturday day before Christmas Eve had Night sweats and chest discomfort so rang 111 for advise and was advised go to A&E where they kept me in overnight as blood pressure, temperature were very high and Oxygen levels low together with a chest infection so gave me yet more Antibiotics plus other Meds and were satisfied that things had normalised overnight so, thankfully, came home morning of Christmas Eve. Have to keep on the medication now (Rivaroxaban and Bisoprolol). If thats what it takes then we have to do it although the Doc says it could all have resulted from the chest infection! So don't ignore and do something about it.

Mine began at Thanksgiving late November with sinus bronchitis that went to pneumonia. It has stayed with me through for courses of antibiotics while on 15 mg prednisone which I think is making it so difficult to get over. I was given an albuterol inhaler and the ER. The best thing for that God awful hacking cough mine was so bad I had to split my stomach with a pillow for fear fracturing my ribs is either the Tussin pearls RX or plain old organic honey several tablespoons swallowed each day. Also inhaling and drinking the chamomile tea with honey of course. My cough still lingers but I am finally beyond all the other symptoms. I feel for you hope you feel better soon.

I've had it too Ronzy. I agree with PMRpro too...keep warm, steam inhalers. Change of temperatures got me so avoid that if poss but if you start to feel unwell with a temperature or the cough becomes productive then call your GP. I don't hold much store by the cough medicines but for comfort purposes I love Buttercup Syrup in a bit of hot water before I go to bed!! :-) Hope you're well soon.
