Wishing everyone happiness, health and love in the New Year! This is me with my 87 year old Tai Chi/Quigong teacher. The day before I fell walking my dog. The puffy coat saved me! I have a bruised rib that hurts when I breathe deeply. I guess all the years of osteoporosis drugs and staying in shape saved me!

Thank goodness you were wearing your puffy coat. Falling is a horrible shock to the system. Is it icy underfoot in NY?

Your teacher is a wonderful role model for Tai/Chi Quigong, she looks just great. You do too, as ever!

I wish you health and happiness and love for 2018.

Take Arnica for your poor rib.

It was my knee that got the bruise when I slipped on the snow here last week!! Perhaps I need puffa jeans - but that would hardly be flattering would it!!!!

Snow! It must be so beautiful where you are. You need your Norwegian walking poles that you so thoughtfully advised me to get, therefore removing my fear of falling over.

If I haven’t wished you a happy Christmas and a healthy happy new year already - I am now. Thank you so much for the wise, informed help you have given this year. You hold so many of us up with your support! ❤️

Not sure poles would make that much difference here this week - there is a coating of rutted ice (formed at -15C overnight). I'd need ones with spikes! I hoped the cobbler in the village would have chains for shoes. No such luck - will have to brave going into town!!!

Why would you go out? You are a very brave soul...but we already knew that!

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to Sandy1947

The weather is utterly gorgeous - all blue and white and gold! And if you can walk where the sun has got to it is fine - it was just immediately after the snow and we had to go into the village but didn't think to go the long way round!

L L Bean’s sells the ones you clamp on over your shoes. That’s the only way I can get down my driveway to get my mail! Otherwise, well you get the picture! Merry Christmas to everyone. 🎄

Looked them up but seems I can only get them online. Can't imagine buying footwear online. Only time I did was a disaster, colossal waste of money.

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to HeronNS

I did also buy online the first time. they ran true to size and if not you can return to icebug or eBay ...

in reply to yogabonnie

Oops. Sorry for repeating.

in reply to PMRpro

I was looking at icebugs boots and shoes but not enough snow and ice in uk to justify cost.

Having broken my ribs a couple of years ago walking dogs I can sympathise Sandy.

I didn't find the price as horrifying as you I suspect - that is fairly normal for winter boots here!

But if they work on sheet ice - I'm all for them so will be investigating next time I am in Innsbruck. If you only need them a couple of times a year - they'll last a LONG time! ;-)

in reply to PMRpro

I think it's good that they do boots and shoes. I will definately consider them I like the spikes idea. I was trying to convince my friend who is in her 80s to get some but I don't think she can lift feet high enough to get spikes in anymore. She does walk a couple of miles a day usually. Like you PP she like to try on before she buys because "funny" feet. Her words.

Thanks for your good wishes. Same to you and your family. You have been a blessing to me on this crazy journey. Luckily, I had a date with a judge the night of my fall so I had to focus on the conversation and the food! I even may see him again! I’m trying to be less “judgey” in the new year!

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply to Sandy1947

Maybe your “ fall” was metaphorical and the Judge is the one. If not, happy hunting anyway!

You are a riot! I am by nature a hunter! I believe there are many “ones”!

She is 87!!!!! omg. both of you look terrific. Chi/Quigong here I come. So sorry about the ribs but keep on breathing deeply!!! get some Icebug boots with BUgrip carbide tips. I could NOT live without both my walking/running shoes and snow boots .. Must have the carbide and not rubber tips!!!! you will never fall on ice again!

What are you talking about? I need pictures of ice bug boots! Better google this. Thanks for new ideas that are not on my radar screen.

yogabonnie profile image
yogabonnie in reply to Sandy1947

you can get on eBay (new but on sale) or right from their site. worth EVERY PENNY. my kids have in Alaska and we ALL have here in Minnesota! Originates from Sweden. us-shop.icebug.com in England just google . Probably on amazon too. But definitely best deals on Ebay that I found or sales on their site. AND they have running shoes. Son does many marathons and uses to train in winter.

No point me trying to order online - I have strange feet!!!! But I have found 2 shops in Austria, one of them I use regularly - not here of course!

daworm profile image

Ice bug and some like Columbia make boots with what they call "arctic grip" they are supposedly good on icy walks..

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply to daworm

I bought chains for boots today - that should ensure it doesn't snow again down here this winter! Supposed to snow on Wednesday - above 1000m so that excuses us...

Thanks for widening my horizons. My son does Marathons all over the world...Paris, Switzerland, Japan, NYC, etc. I will share the foot wear info with him. Minnesota and Alaska...I could not survive!!! The cold in NY and NJ makes my PMR worse. You must need 1000 mg Pred to survive.

Hallo

Sandy, Nice pic of the both of you. My tai chi instructor is in his thirties, so I can show off with him, looking young. Your fluffy coat must have helped, but I guess also you practising tai chi. Hope you heal real soon. And my Son brought me this p-brodden.no from Norway, they do help a bit. Once more enjoy the

The link works fine. Look similar to icebugs but despite having brother SIL and three kids in wageningen for past 15years I sadly can't understand Dutch. The children have always practiced their English on us oin the uk. My attempts to understand spoken Dutch has been stopped by brain fog. Hope you enjoyed sinterklaas visiting. The Dutch contingent looking forward to father christmas bringing even more presents on 25th when they visit us.

O Poopadoop, It is a link from Norway, and they are not so very Good in English translations, only sent the

Link since the product suits me. So you soon will have the house full with the “ Dutch” family have a very Nice time together . Are they in a way connected with the university of agriculture? Nice place along the river.🎄⛴

in reply to Zofitmogelijk

My sister in law did her PhD there but now works for a company who fly her all round the world. I have been several times but can't manage public transport at moment. They are bringing their new puppy too. It's going to be very busy 😂

WoW , a puppy as Well ( you might consider to hirea bench. My Son has done Some studies in Wageningen and Some in Boskoop. He has a very small 5 month old, and a adult one. This Year he skips the december visit, a bit risky but I See him in March, booked the ferry. From Denemarken to Bergen. Now looking at tv the lake district on BBC 2, so beautiful. Once again, have a very nice time, and hope you feel Some stronger too. Take time out when you need it. 🛌

Hollyseden in reply to Zofitmogelijk

Yes the Lake District is beautiful. I live 2½ hours away from it and am looking forward to going there again for a week over New Year with family and friends. Won't be climbing any hills though 🙄, will settle for nice lakeside walks.

Zofitmogelijk profile image
Zofitmogelijk in reply to Hollyseden

Hi Hollyseden, sounds like a very Good plan, wish I could go there as Well. Even if you can’t climb the mountains, there is still the beauty of the scenery. My very first long distance walk was the coast to coast, over Helvellyn. Have a great time.
