Hi everyone. I have a virus in July while on holiday and was ill for 8 weeks. . My dr in England diagnosed polymyalgia tho me symptoms are in my feet and legs mainly. He did not do any tests only a blood test that showed my liver ALT to be 105. It’s now down to 73 - should be 40 ?

I am in Ibiza now and trying to get off pred and reduced from 25 mg now to 12.5mg. I’m using diet and alternative medicines ( of which thee are many options on this island ) my concern is my pulse rate of 100 bpm averagewas 60 - 70 ! I can’t seem to lower it. Anyone else have this ? Is it the prednisone ? I don’t have a dr here so doing my own meds. I’m going to get off prednisone ASAP

Dave

Palpitations are a side effect of Prednisalone. You do need medical supervision whilst taking Pred, it can effect your blood pressure and even your heart. You also need to check out any interactions with the alternative medicines you are taking. You might be taking a toxic combination without realising. In short you need to see the doctor. Your foot and leg symptoms do not sound typical of PMR in isolation, to me. The main diagnosis is the symptom picture you present as well as blood tests to check your CRP and ESR levels that might indicate an abnormal level of inflammation.

I envy you your beautiful Island! Now you need to nip this symptom in the bud. A number of us take a beta blocker but don't for goodness sake prescribe one for yourself. Vasculitis ( if this is what you have) can have serious consequences. Let us know what happens.

Hi Jane thanks for the advice. I am taking a contoction for liver cleans / detox also pumpkin seed oil. Vit c vit and calcium. Turmeric and black pepper. Also have a yeast cleanse for Candida but not taken that yet. Someone is getting me Kalawalla. This is supposed to cure polymyalgia on its own !

There are more ‘healers ‘ altenative medical doctors , Whitch doctors. And fake doctors and ecological shops per square mile than anywhere else i the world !!

So have to be careful.

Seen a Shaman healer , accunpunturist , Argentinian rheumatologist. And spiritual healer.

I search - scholar google - this is the best advice I can give to anyone. It’s all very complex and confusing. I am 67 and never really had an illness before. I used to walk at least 5 mile a day and enjoy life to the full. Now I do feel like an old man .

I will see a dr here to get a blood test so I can see my progress.

Oh and other things I have here but not taken as yet. Olive leaf extract. Lycopene. Probiotics. Boswellia. Raw apple cider vinegar - I use this occasionally.

I also take 5mg ramipril for bp. But this is fine 116/ 77

My diet now is only organic raw veg. Fish and shell fish. No meat. 2 ltr water a day. And almost cut the booze to a glass a day. It’s hard work. Don’t know if it all helps I’ll let you know

Your diet should be helpful no matter what. :) Can relate to the shock of becoming old all of a sudden! One of the things talked about sometimes to reduce inflammation is CBD oil, cannabidiol, which has no psychotropic effects but has been shown effective for some disorders including intransigent childhood epilepsy. Haven't tried it myself.

Hi Heronns, I have started a CBD oil since about 3 weeks ago. I take it first thing in the morning, after about 15 min. It starts to ease the pain in my hips and legs including the sciatica. I have become a believer. Beware of offers on facebook ,as they will rip you off. Don’t order any free samples! They start charging you on your creditcard. I had to cancel mine to stop them.

Try Bluebird botanical, they have good reviews.

Greetings

I'm kind of waiting, first for the legal cannabis clinics to be up and running where I live, and for me to be off pred but hoping to keep well.

Did you drop from 25 to 12.5mg in one go? If so, no wonder you feel strange. It must be done gradually after you have been on pred for more than a couple of months, sometimes sooner depending on the dose you were on.

I see you included "fake doctors" - sorry, but I think you have found some. NOTHING will cure PMR just like that - anyone who found something that genuinely cured PMR would make a fortune!

You are still on a considerable dose of pred and it really is not a good idea to mix it with any alternative or, if it comes to that, mainstream medications without guidance from at least a pharmacist. An alternative drug that is strong enough to have an effect is also strong enough to cause an interaction with pred which could have very serious consequences.

One alternative drug that was being pushed as a "steroid-free cure for rheumatoid arthritis" was analysed in Danish laboratories - and found to contain massive amounts of natural corticosteroid substances. Of course it worked - but there was no monitoring or production and there were other quite dangerous contaminants.

I had palpitations with PMR but it wasn't the pred, it was the autoimmune part of PMR which has damaged the electrical cells in heart and this has led to atrial fibrillation. That would need medical management or you are at a high risk of stroke.

Please listen to PMRPro. All these concoctions interacting are not a good idea.
