Has anyone had rosacea occur while coming off Prednisone? I’m at 2mg one day then 1mg the next day but it started right before while I was ending the 2mg that I was on for a month.

I also have a pre cancerous spot that came out also that my dr said occurred because of being on the prednisone and coming off of it also. He said that can happen also. He said it’s slow growing but those things are dormant and they can arise because of the prednisone. Has anyone had this happen to them also. It’s kind of scary what can happen while you are on this medication. My neighbor experienced stroke like symptoms while on it which scare the living you know what. I guess it’s good to be aware of things. My dr said to be aware of any severe headaches that are different or visual changes because you have to be careful of blindness while coming off this medication also. I have been on this since the middle of July 2024 when I was first diagnosed with PMR. It took 3 Dr’s to figure it out and of course it was my Rheumatoid Dr. !! I told him my symptoms and what was going on in my life about loosing my mother. He gave me a squeeze hug 🫂 and asked me if that hurt and I almost went through the roof. All it took was 5 minutes and here I went to two others and they couldn’t figure it out. I thought I was going crazy for almost 3 months. I was so relieved to get relief 😮‍💨 finally. Somebody that finally was listening to me. I guess that’s why we have different Dr’s in different specialties. I sympathize for everyone on here going through what they are going through we all have a lot of challenges. God Bless you all!! Take care of yourselves! ❤️🙏🫂

Hello and welcome. You have done extraordinarily well to be down at 2mg in 8 months. Are you pain free? It is important not to reduce through PMR discomfort.

Your pre-cancerous spot could have occurred even if you were never on steroids; they are very common. So don’t feel like a sitting duck with damned if you’re on Pred and damned if you’re coming off it. If the doctor thinks it is precancerous then they need to refer you to a dermatologist for removal. They might mean it looks benign right now but in theory could become cancerous which isn’t the same as it being pre-cancerous. That’s down to what cellular changes are seen under microscope.

The blindness they speak of is likely from another form of this, GCA. It’s often a concern in those with GCA when their dose comes down because it needs much higher doses than PMR. It is very good to be aware of the symptoms but not worth becoming a nervous wreck.

They already put me on a cream I was at the dermatologist when they discovered that’s who made me aware of all these things. I’m not all to worried but I am making others aware of things that may happen to them also. I feel very fortunate that I am able to come off the prednisone like I have been able to so far. I have had pain but I am just dealing with it but I just want to get off this. I know it’s not good for you. I hope if you are I. It you can also. ❤️

I had a squamous cell carcinoma on my leg that came up since taking prednisolone. However, I had one before I was on prednisolone too. Hence, it could’ve just been a coincidence. What I did notice though, is that the one that came up while taking prednisolone changed far more rapidly than the one when I wasn’t taking it.

I had Rosacea long before PMR which instantly cleared up once I started taking Prednisolone 11 years ago.

My sister has rosacea and so does a very good friend who also has lupus. Both seem to have got it under control. My friend loves gardening and she always wears a very wide brimmed hat, she has a fantastic assortment of really pretty flowery hats.

The dermatologist told me that most creams won’t work. He said if I get very frustrated he will give me something but I said I’ll just deal with it. He said do t bother changing soaps, creams, washcloths etc it won’t make a difference. He said it might go away or it might stay. I said wonderful. He said sometimes this happens when you have been on Prednisone long term. It’s kind of a bummer but things happen. ❤️

He also said if I get to frustrated I could get laser but it probably won’t be covered by the insurance.

sorry hadnt finished message, now being referred to another dermatologist, but she has purchased a light theapy apparatus to try and is considering laser therapy, she doesnt know what has triggered this condition, usual causes alcohol etc doesn apply as she doesnt drink, you say prednisone alleviated your rosacea , I have been n pred for almost 9 years, re pmr diagnosis, and have had many side affects in last couple years, so I am hesitant for her to go down that road, but can I ask how long did you take pred, and what dosage before your rosacea cleared up ?

I have been in Prednisone since August 24 and tapering and now on 2mg one day and 1mg the next. The derm said this happens and sometimes it goes away and sometimes it doesn’t. No promises!! He said he could give me a gel but usually it doesn’t do any good. He said don’t change soaps, face cream, washcloths etc. nothing is going to change the situation. He said that I could get laser down the road but that probably isn’t covered by the insurance. I feel like rudolf the red nose reindeer sometimes with one rose cheek right now. Never had anything like this before and I’m to be 71. lol 😂.

Have you looked at diet? I found the food I ate that affected my Rosacea, especially red things, included strawberries, tomatoes, red wine, red chilli spicy recipes. However, I also noticed that more than one glass of any coloured wine or spirit could make my cheeks flush.

That is a point, I know my sister tried all sorts of things with diet.

I have had PMR since 2020 and am now down to 7 mg. Prednisone. I began having rosecea in the evenings and was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency. I have had several skin cancers removed in the last year but I had four removed before I was on prednisone. We just have to keep dealing with side effects.

Very pleased to have found this thread, daughter inlaw has had roseacea for years I have known her for 30 hrs. She has. Antibiocsfor it. Heradult daughter has it She takes doxycycline. Antibiotics( given for Lyme disease now. )

I have a skin cancer on my face... think it is a squamouscell carcinoma. I didn't connect it with taking preds.

It apperaed and went away but in July it came to stay.

Very familiar with skin cancer as husband had many basal celll carcinomas f or over 40 yrs and I was the first to diagnose his, sent him to the skin specialist. He made frequent trips and they became friends The penultimate time he had a cream for them all over his head.

I cured the last one myself as he was then bedridden. Took a year and left a little deep hole But all filled up within a few weeks with new growth and fresh skin. The body is wonderful

Mine I am not bothered ab out. Cannot go to the doctor anyway and I will be gone before it does too much harm. It is less scaly am taking Ivermectin. It is not itching or bleeding anymore so that is good,

Did you know that when it shows on the skin it has already begun in lower layers of sin. I did

not till recently.

There's a skin cancer site on you tube with a verynice lady whose name I have forgotten.

Get well soon everybody and keep plodding on.
