Hello Everyone, just wondered if it's the Pred that causes my legs to have dark purple / red patches that appear at the slightest bump or if I catch my leg on anything. They are very unsightly so thank heaven for jeans and trousers.

Yes I have had several of these. I’m afraid mine haven’t faded ( even the first one which was 18 months ago.

Probably. I'm lucky in that I have few problems with bad ones - but while away with the camper van I do develop bruises in strange places! I am on an anticoagulant as well so I shouldn't be too surprised!

I'm assuming you mean very small patches? They are called either purpurae or petechiae depending on the size. A couple of us who don't have much of a problem are convinced it is due to avoiding soap altogether which strips the skin of natural oils and makes it even more fragile. The other lady swears by Doublebase products.

Hi,

It was my firearms that got the bashing when I was on Pred. As PMRPro says use a moisturiser, that helps the skin elasticity, but Arnica cream - available from all chemists and most supermarkets - help the bruise itself.

I had this symptom in the early days. Bruises on my stomach that puzzled me until I figured out that it was the kicking of my grandson's tiny feet as I changed his nappy. It doesn't happen so much now I am lower doses.

Yes, I have noticed that my skin has gotten very thin since on Pred. I bruise and bleed very easily and get purple marks on my forearms (No firearms here! LOL). Any little bump is a purple mark, any scratch bleeds. Ge embarrassed at how "Old Lady" my arms look now!

Will take the advice to moisturize and use arnica bruise cream! Thanks for that advice!

Me too! Won't show my legs ever. Used to be my best and only asset. 😬 Thank heaven for thick black tights. And I too, think 'old lady legs' which is fine coming from me since I'm 72.
