Should I get a flu jag from my GP
Flu jag: Should I get a flu jag from my GP - PMRGCAuk
Flu jag
Yes. It is not a live vaccine and is fine for us, unlike flu.
You'd be better off asking for a flu jab! Or though a flu jag might be more interesting π
Jag is what we say in Scotland DL.
Just realised that after 40 years in England I now say jab!! Also I no longer go for my "messages"
Just realised that after 40 years in Scotland I now say jag!! I don't go for my "messages" yet though.
I thought we only went for the "messages" in Ireland! A "Jag" though, is something I'd love to drive! π
Always tried to get mums not call vaccines jags as that implies pain to kids so became frightened before they got them. Injections doesn't sound so sore! I'm Scottish as well x
Ah well - I'm one of the mums who refused to suggest that whether it was a jag, a jab, a shot or an injection it wouldn't hurt. That's how children come to believe you lie about such things.
Well, in Canada a vaccination is called a shot. π
Over here, that's either a measure of whiskey ( or whisky whether it's Irish or Scottish) or coffee!
Ever wish you kept quietπ
Yes, a shot of alcohol is used as well. I like these linguistic discussions. As someone, Wilde or Wells, or someone like that, said, America and England have everything in common except the language!
George Bernard Shaw maybe?
Could be. Too hard to check things on the little tablet.
In Scotland a shot is to ask to have a go at something!! π We could start the pmg linguist forum. We seem to be from all countries. Italy, me France, Canada, USA. How I do enjoy this forum. Thanks everyone.
Had mine all the time I have had PMR/GCA without any problems, flu is really nasty. π€§
Researchers at the University of Nottingham have suggested that being in a positive mood makes the flu vaccination more effective!
Yes.
Don't worry about the Southies not speaking Scots - I know it as a jag too and have to keep reminding myself not to write that just in case...
Didn't mean to start a turf war! π€
Lol had contact GP practice receptionist said she didn't know if I qualified for one
If you have a illness like PMR then yes - your immune system is compromised so you need all the help you can get. Plus you may qualify depending on age.
Nothing to do with a receptionist - when did SHE get her medical degree? You are on an immunosuppressant drug, End of...
You didn't! Just two nations separated by a common language!!!!
Yes, but what fun. Nice to be chatting and laughing about something else, don't you think?
Already had mine - no problems as usual
Yes. Just been for mine. This will be the third I've had, with no ill effects whatsoever.
I thought we shouldn't get the flu vaccine. I need to check this with my doctor because I am on Actemra as well. I recently moved from the High School to one of our smaller elementary schools and this past week we had so many children "losing their cookies" in the hallways & classrooms. I'm not a teacher so I'm not in direct contact with students which helps a bit but as a technician I've been more mindful about disinfecting the equipment I work on. I've never had anxiety about catching anything but lately all I want to do is put a mask over my face when I walk through the halls!
I agree Marie feel so paranoid about catching cold and flu as don't want a flare as have been doing well so far. I also still work in a homeless hostel
Marie: The flu vaccine is fine as a shot/jab/jag as it is a killed vaccine - the nasal spray version is not as it is attenuated, just weakened live virus.
Flu vaccine not 'live' therefore safe for us, indeed more important for us to get it as we have lower immunity to viruses and bugs
Marie, how are you doing on the Actemra? My doc has suggested it might be good for me but I'm not keen.
I have been on Actemra for 5 1/2 months. I have been able to reduce by more than half. It would have been more had I not had such a traumatic experience that caused me to flare. Im doing great now. I am down to 4 1/2 mg of RAYOS (time released prednisone) and once a week Actemra injection. Before Actemra I could not reduce past 12mg with out a flare. I also felt like horrible and missed so much work. I was dizzy, blurry vision, lightheaded, horribly nauseous and stiff. The mornings were awful. I had almost no side effects from Actemra. A bit of acid reflex and maybe some stomach cramps but thatβs it. Iβm a fan.
That's good to hear. I'm on Methotrexate as well as 15 mgs pred. Find it hard to get down to 12. My doc is talking about a once a month infusion but the side effects are a scary read. I've had all the blood checks in advance of next visit. Great to hear you're doing well.
What a lovely lot of blethering that was.
To summarise, yes get the flu vaccine because flu will knock you for six. Only live vaccines are contraindicated for people with compromised immune systems.
This info is the latest from the NHS on TV. This winters` flue Jab for the over 65`s will not work.
