Ronzy in reality. π
So send s/he the link.............with compliments and hope s/he has a good read.
Enlightened doctors approve of this forum and the advice it offers. Mine has a keen interest in PMR/GCA and advocates the DSNS method of reducing Pred. she has printed materials to help patients with it. Some doctors have control issues and feel threatened by the knowledgeable patient. Even worse are doctors who dismiss conditions like PMR as if somehow it wasn't a real illness like arthritis for instance. I have never seen irresponsible advice go unchallenged here.
That is enlightening ππ. Wish my doctors was like that πThink my doc knows it all.
I will have to move down to Sheffield.
Good post. π
I told my GP about it today, and about the K2. He didn't know about that. I have no doubt he will be doing some reading soon. He also approves of my very slow reductions of pred...whatever suits!
Thanks SJ - you've got it-in-one on all counts, as usual!
I'm sure that your very sound insight will be especially reassuring to any of those of Us Lot (Newbies or others - including myself) who, sometimes, doubt their judgement in these things.
I totally agree with you about some GPs / Docs having 'control issues' - my most recent post is a text-book example of such an experience with one.

Don't be intimidated by any doctor - if they make you feel that way then find another one pronto - like you would a plumber, an electrician or a hairdresser - most of whom would NOT terrify their clientele !
Best wishes
Thanks for that. But not too sure how to go about that.
Been with these all my life.
Do I have to go to another health service and say will you take me on.
Have you ever changed yours.
Hi
Just find another Practice that have capacity to take you on and register with them ,
I would suggest you fine out if any of the GPs have a interest in PMR/GCA.
National Health service advocate for us to be responsible for our own health and buy taking control that's what you are doing .
As Rose54 says you are quite entitled to go elsewhere and I agree asking if there is a doctor available with knowledge of PMR/GCA - or perhaps more politely 'an interest' would be a good idea. Your friend's comment about the quality of treatment is itself disturbing and if your health is at stake it is well worth 'shopping around'.
Best of luck
In my mums day, the doctor was god. Whatever he said /did was gospel. Today, things are different. We are buying knowledge/service, much as any other technician we employ.
My doc is only one part of my healthcare... i am responsible for presenting my health concern, listening, asking questions, following through with the treatment plan, challenging, and requesting another opinion if I'm not satisfied. I use my doctor, this forum, Dr. Google, my pharmacist, my chiro, my acupuncturist, and my friends as resources . I will change doctors without reluctance if I am not satisfied with the care/attention I am getting.
At $270 per 20 minute appt, I am absolutely entitled to a doc who is open to new information and who listens to my concerns. I guess I'm kinda picky that way. π
I'm sure that attitudes in the UK are different, because the NHS is felt to be 'free'. Well, our taxes fund it, so we're still paying their salaries. Some people in the UK do pay for private consultations and get treated differently - more time and more pleasant environment, usually. However, we still read on here of unsatisfactory consultations, both in private and NHS settings.
On the other hand, some of us including me, are very happy with the NHS care we receive. I feel it's all down to the personality of the doctors - how caring and empathic they are as well as their knowledge and humility.
I'm very happy with my present GP, but have chosen never to see another GP within the same practice. Is that a way forward for Ronzy?
My rheumy is amazing, but then she is a trustee of the PMRGCAuk charity!
Why not? When I told mine she said that most of her patients were too old!
She meant it kindly and some are too poor to have access to a computer. However she did say she would pass it on. My new one is so laid back he could fall over, he wanted to put me on steroids sparers but I refused because I had high blood pressure, he lets me use the slow tapering which is useful.
Medicine is a partnership, no one knows everything and the body of knowledge is changing.
My own GP husband knows everything I get from the Forum and shares it with the rest of the Practice. There is no room for arrogance. They have to take an annual appraisal so have no choice other than to prove they are up to date
Good luck
Yes. The annual appraisal is worth it They all hate it, it has several sections about what they have learned, why they learned it and how they were going to change practice and a section on relationships with patients. A personal development plan about what they are going to do next year. All this is done on line which has to be submitted to another GP attached to the University and they have to be appraised by that person
Every 5 years they have to have 15 colleagues who are are asked what they think about them and 30 patients in order to be relicensed.
Any GP worth their salt would grab at the offer of an academic paper to shove in their folder
Hope this helps
