No you may not be, but he did say, more common in ladies over 60! unfortunately that's why younger people don't always get diagnosed correctly - but then neither did I, and I was female & 63 at the outset.
Glad to hear his comment about a negative biopsy, not necessarily meaning the patient doesn't have GCA. Pity more Rheumys/doctors don't know that! Might save the patients a lot of hassle.
He said "Remember, Temporal Arteritis is a little old lady that is also having this pain" and he drew a walking stick for her. I hope lots of poorly "little old ladies" do get diagnosed and helped, but not all of us with GCA fit that description...yet! Younger people get it too.
I know they do, but only a few years ago, the so called experts stated you had to be in your 70s to get it! So, they have progressed a little! Not enough obviously, but as the saying goes "Rome wasn't built in a day!"
We all live in hope that one day, they won't be so fixated on the "age" thing.
At least someone has the good sense to demonstrate a condition that no one knows anything about until they succumb to the first symptom. Noticeable that this is an American video and not English. The English and I am sorry to admit to being one are so far behind with demonstrating using videoes I really do despair.
Thanks. Recent, and seems like a good introduction to the subject. The info re arterial anatomy, and how the inflammatory process works, is informative. Good for diagnosis.
What we then need is what happens next.
Have to say, I'm not keen on being stereotyped as a 'little old lady'. That's not what I was before all this happened!
Yes there are a whole series linked to Vasculitis- I have GCA but it is termed large vessel Vasculitis as it affects some of my other blood vessels and can be more complicated to diagnose. I watched these a lot when first diagnosed 2 yrs ago.
