I have had GCA for a year now and have been having monthly blood tests, am now on 13mg of Prednisolone and reducing by 1mg a month with no problems at present.

How often should I have blood tests now.

My GP says every couple of months. However, your symptoms should be the main marker. You may have read that some people don't have raised levels of ESR and CRP, but for those of us that do, a regular watch on them is a good idea.

Hi,

Increased blood readings are likely to lag behind any symptoms, so symptoms are the key to any problems, but as Rugger says many like to keep a track of readings for their own info.

I had monthly tests until I got to single figures and then went on to every 2 months. It's what you're happy with, and the surgery and /or doctor. !

Thanks for that, seems like a sensible plan.

Tapering off also after several months on steroids. On 7mg prednisone, reducing each month by 1mg. Blood tests are done 1x 2monthly for 6 months, then 1x3monthly for 6 months. Hope this helps.
