Somewhere and I thought it was here someone posted a link to blood tests to monitor PMR - there were about 8-10 tests. Does anyone know where I can get such a resource?

Thanks very much!

My docs always manage my blood tests for me. Are you looking to do this independently?

yes I want to help determine what blood tests I get.

The only tests that monitor PMR would be ESR and CRP, the inflammatory markers. Other tests would be more for monitoring general health on pred or whatever other drugs you are taking. They would include FBC (full blood count which is haematological monitoring) as well as electrolytes and other mineral ions.

thank you., Yes your distinction is noted between PMR and Cortisone monitoring. Besides the Adrenal function tests, are there others for when taking Cortisone?

Adrenal function tests don't apply until you are below 5mg corticosteroid - above that there will be adrenal suppression. The monitoring while on steroids is for problems with BP, potential diabetes (so Hba1c), cholesterol and lipids.

see this for usual tests in UK - but they measure inflammation levels - which can be raised by many things not just PMR-

The two I normally get is CRP and ESR to check my inflammatory markers. I have also had

Hba1C to check blood sugar

Vitamin D check

Serum Folate

Full Blood Test

Liver Function

Eurea and Electrolytes kidney function test

Serum TSH for Thyroid check

Serum lipids for cholesterol

Some were really for well being.

Me too..... I would recommend all the CBC (FBC) tests...you want to keep your eye on how everything is "working" so to speak. You need more than inflammation markers. Good luck to you kp60...and piglette too.

I get tested at my rheumy appointment. I have PMR & GCA. They test for ESR and CRP, FBC, LFT but not HbA1c. They also check my blood pressure - high at the last one, but it didn't bother him, urine (don't know what for), and weight.

CRP and ESR are ‘standard’ but not specific because they can be raised for other reasons, eg an infection. For example I have a chest infection and it would be pointless checking the inflammation markers until I’m clear. IL-6 is more specific to PMR, but good luck getting that tested!
