I am 83 years old and was diagnosed14 months ago and after one flare up I am down to 7ml pred. My problem is that if I sit down to read or even have coffee I fall asleep! I can sleep all afternoon if I sit down after lunch. What a waste of time. Does this happen to others?

Yes, it most certainly does in my case!

I'm 77 and was diagnosed PMR in Dec 2014 - now tapering from 5 to 4.5mg per day.

Having a sleep after lunch has been just about essential for me, if I am to last out the day. If, for some reason, I miss a sleep, I will, for sure, know about it the next day. Rest is one of the most important factors in managing PMR, so, for goodness sake, don't beat yourself up about falling asleep after lunch; it is very likely one of the best things you can do.

As they say nowadays, just "chill"!!!

Good luck

Paddy

Hi Basil5Loved,

Par for the course I'm afraid to say, but not anything to worry about. PMR and Pred can cause fatigue anyway, but you are now just about at the level when your own adrenal glands need to start working again. That just adds in another fatigue causing factor!

I felt absolutely wiped out when I was reducing from 6mg down to 3mg, and like you, only had to sit in the chair and I was gone!

It will get better, and don't look as it as a waste of time, it's your body doing what it needs to.

Take care.

I'm sure it does yes! Especially at this dose - your adrenal glands have to start to wake up again after their holiday so that will now contribute.

There are a lot of people younger than you with PMR who have found that planning a short siesta in early afternoon whether they feel they need it or not allows them a better quality of afternoon and evening and they effectively get more hours out of the day. The southern Italians ALL have a long lunch break and have a kip after lunch - and no, it isn't the weather, they do it in the winter too!

And if you have had a snooze and then spend another few hours awake - it wasn't a waste of time was it?

Basil5loved, you need it, the body in some turmoil, just take it, the body will love you for it. Just a word of caution, if I may - make sure the house ground floor openings are latched and the gas cooker , Fire is off. Take care John 81,was a Safety Adviser but still carry out Neighbourhood Watch duties in the village.

Basil5Loved, I have the same problem. The trouble is I miss great chunks out of watching TV programmes and listening to the radio. I think I really want to see or listen to that and the next minute I discover I have missed it!

Yep, happens to me all the time. In fact I had a little nap over my laptop a few minutes ago! What really irks me, though, is nodding off just before the criminal is unmasked in a murder mystery, or just before the point of a documentary is reached.

Snap. In fact I was going to watch the news about an hour ago, only to discover that when I next looked, it had nearly finished. I suppose it would have just been full of Trump on the other hand!

I'm avoiding the news at the moment - too many politicians promising the world and slagging each other! Can't be doing with it!

Even David has given up on Sky News!

Mmm, it's relentless, and if you thought you were going to learn anything new it might be a bit more interesting, but they're all like a lot of school kids bickering. No sorry, worse than a load of school kids.

Roll on June when it's over, but it won't be will it, we'll be arguing about Brexit then!

I want to go to a nice warm, safe, quiet desert island - know any?

P.s. If it was summer in NZ I'd go early.

Is winter there SO bad? I'd go...

At least we can watch German news to find out what is happening in the world - even then you get faced with May or Trump. And on a really bad day there might be Faridge or Boris. I'm getting a trifle testy at the over-exposure of UKIP and under exposure of the Greens - who do have an MP don't they? Though you wouldn't know.

And I have a horrible suspicion that there will be no arguing over Brexit - if she gets a big enough majority it will be fait accompli. And as a worst case scenario I will have a few months of no health insurance...

Yes, but then I'd have nothing o look forward to! And that's half the fun.

I really enjoy the Trump bits, it is like a sitcom, I cannot believe what he comes up with. What I really like is the way he denies things that are on video and can be played back. I suppose they are fake news!

Definitely fake videos...

I'm getting bored with the claims in the papers that "this" has to be the end for him...

I believe that the betting companies are around two to one against him being impeached.

Yesterday he said TIME magazine CALLED him and said he would "probably be man of the year." then TIME magazine said NO. we didn't. Haha.

Yes I identify with that a lot of my favourites I record so the criminal never goes undetected. It is annoying though to drop off and wake to another programme completely

I too am 83 and am off steroids but have a snooze most afternoons. My doctor tells me although I look young for my age I must remember I am not 21 anymore! A snooze didn't do anyone any harm. So enjoy your snoozes
