Hallo everyone. Just wondered if anybody was taking a tumeric supplement along with the pred. Has it helped anyone or caused problems. Thanks for any advice on this.
TUMERIC SUPPLEMENTS: Hallo everyone. Just wondered... - PMRGCAuk
TUMERIC SUPPLEMENTS
Yes, I am taking 1300mgs, twice a day. It has helped me get down to 2 mgs. prednisone daily.
I took a turmeric supplement for almost 12 months didn't notice any difference . I still add it to my cooking , stir frys , omelettes stuff like that all the experts say it's the supplement for reducing inflammation so always worth a go . Good luck 👍
Yes, I just started taking turmeric about 3 weeks ago. I feel good, so it is hard to tell if it helps....I have been on 10mg for about 5 weeks. Will be going to 9 soon, so that will be a test! I also take magnesium, D, zinc, & b12! I have not had a problem with any of them ..... I take pred 3:30am.....b12 about 10am and the rest in the evening...all with food and lots of water.
Be careful with taking turmeric supplements if you are on any other medications.
There are a lot of people who use it in cooking and feel it makes a difference.
Can I ask why you say that PMRpro?
What? Not to take it alongside other medications without checking? Because even if it is "only a supplement", they can also interact with other substances, supplements and prescription medications alike. Never take anything without asking the pharmacist - not the counter staff or the salespeople in the health food shop - and even then, they miss things too.
It is estimated that more than a quarter of patients in hospitals are there because of drug interactions and tens of thousands (at a very conservative estimate) die because of overdoses or drug interactions.
In the case of turmeric, off the top of my head I can tell you no-one on anticoagulants should take turmeric as a supplement. Using it in cooking is a far lower dose and is probably fine but even then, care is required.
I bought and returned a tumeric supplement because I saw a caution about omeprazole and the supplement. Just found this:umm.edu/health/medical/altm...

Just reposting the link so it will work directly from here
I tried taking it for several months. Did not see any side effects, but also did not see any help from it, so I stopped taking it.
My doctor recently wanted me to take methotrexate, but I opted out. Instead he upped my prednisone dosage and told me to take curcumin (turmeric). I was surprised that he recommended this, but very pleased that he did. My CRP was at 82, and dropped only to 54 in 3 months, so I will see if the curcumin helps this along. He told me to take 2000 mgs a day and I will give it a try!
I am also stubbornly anemic and I see this doctor on Monday. I am hoping he has some suggestions that will help too.
The latest research shows turmeric has no specific therapeutic benefits. Save your money!
I tried it for 4 months at my Dr.s suggestion. The price is pretty expensive and I didn’t notice any difference at all so I stopped.
