Pmr and amd wet

Has anyone been diagnosed with malecular degeneration whilst having Pmr?

My optician believes my dry AMD has changed to wet and I'm waiting for clinic app. I just wondered if any connection i.e blood vessels?

I saw a German health programme a few weeks ago that mentioned that dry macular degeneration can progress to wet - I didn't know that. But the American Macular Degeneration Society site confirms it

As I understand it, wet MD is due to the growth of abnormal blood vessels whereas dry MD is due to deposits of stuff. I don't think the PMR would have any role to play.

OK Marlene - this is one for me! I work for the Macular Society and you must call 0300 3030 111 immediately (close at 4.45pm each day) Tell them Jayne said you must call (or email [e-mail]). One in ten cases of dry MD turns to wet. It is ALWAYS extremely urgent. You need to see a retinal specialist within two days and have treatment within two weeks. IF your optician fast tracked you to the hospital then you should be sent for almost immediately. If he didn't then he should have. If the hospital don't make an appointment for the nest couple of days then you must turn up at the Eye Department of the Hospital. If you are abroad all the same applies but you may need a retinal charity/advice line. In any case you must act by tomorrow. The treatment (lucentis/ Eylea/avastin is great and works wonders but cannot be given retrospectively. Do not worry about the injection - it is painless and very quick. Go girl go!

I have worked with MD for 15 years but do not know of any connection with PMR. It is more likely from having the dry condition already.

Hi Daisyroo, thank you very much for your advice. I rang number and told as long as I had treatment in 2 weeks would be OK. However I rang opticians and they've got my app., for April 10th which will be 2 weeks. So hope I will begin treatment same day. Or better still that optician wrong.

Good luck. Always ask me or my office .... ros is best while I,m not there!,. Try to push for earlier appt. which hospital?

They should be fine. They know the form there. It does vary hospital to hospital. Don't let anyone postpone your appointment though.

That is the best news! Don't worry about the treatment if they offer you an injection - it is not anything like as bad as it sounds. (They just prick the numbed white of the eye with very fine needle). Never refuse treatment if it is offered. There is no 'undo' or thinking about it later. Loads of people all over the world have this treatment with great success. The hospitals in the UK have queues of people waiting for treatment. Good Luck and don't worry :).

So glad I rang them - thank you. Oh no I'd never refuse any treatment - they can do whatever! Eyes are so precious and I do a lot of close work with crafts.

Hi Daisyroo I don't have wet Amd just the dry has worsened and just have to keep a check on it.

I have darkest sunglasses, eat greens, bright fruits and veg, and have annual eye checks so I think I'm doing all I can, so hope I can keep it at bay!

wonderful news - - so much better than having the Wet type of MD. Not dark glasses though - unless its a bright summers day - go for anti-glare yellow/orange/browns from Optima Low Vision or SW Retail low vision - you want 'Blue light blockers'. Visors and hats with brims are good too. Blueberries, kale, and currants are the very best. Good luck
