Increasing steroids

Just wondering whether there is any connection, I ve been taking Prednisone down to 5mg daily. So far so good (almost a year), and then suddenly two or three days ago, I suddenly can hardly move. As I am a keen walker and lead an active life, just want to know if it is safe to increase the dose, and if so by how much ?

You really need to speak to GP or Rheumy, to ascertain what level to increase to, we aren't medically trained on here, so can't tell you that. However, it does sound as if you have gone past the level of Pred that is controlling the inflammation, whether that's because you've increased too quickly or have done too much - you do say you are active.

Even though the Pred makes you feel better, you are not back to the fitness levels pre PMR, so you do need to learn to pace yourself, that means giving your muscles chance to recover after exercise.

Suggest you phone to get advice soonest to prevent the flare getting worse.

As DL says - something to check with your doctor really. Who manages you - your GP or a rheumy?

When did you last reduce and by how much? If you have just reduced you could try going back to the last dose that you know worked.

Are you sure you didn't miss taking your pred at some point? Or have you started a new pack from a different supplier? That caused me a flare!
