PMR Testosterone

I was a healthy fit 54 year old man when PMR hit me virtually overnight in April 2016 Prior to that at my physical my testosterone levels were 430.

After 8 months on prednisone my levels are down, regular tests show it varying between 150 and 200. Less than 300 is considered low.

I wonder how much my low levels are affecting things?

Systemic corticosteroids reduce testosterone levels, that is known.

However - can't see it will have much effect in PMR, women have testosterone levels of up to 70 max and it makes little difference to us being on pred! (About 3 times as many women as men develop PMR)

However - the still considerably higher testosterone levels found in men may well be the reason for them weathering PMR and pred in a consistently different way to women.

And ask your doctor about having a dexascan - the reduced testorsterone levels may increase the development of osteoporosis.
