No idea about attendance allowance, sorry.

But the drips from your head is a common GCA/PMR/pred associated complaint. Can be any or all of them. Some people use a John McEnroe style headband, others a light scarf to absorb the drips. Or sit with a towel round their neck to absorb it...

Hi you can apply online for AA on direct.gov.uk or Citizens Advice can assist and also answer any questions re severe disablement money. Or contact the Pension Service 0845 6060265.

Age Concern may also be able to advise 0845 6013446.

Good Luck xx

Hi Rusty

When my husband was alive he received AA plus his normal pension, he did not receive any other disablement pension, but I think the rules are only one or the other, not both.

Incidentally when I applied for AA some 5 years ago (before diagnosis) I was denied because I could still manage to dress and feed myself - they seemed more concerned with my mental state!

As Turkey55 says check with Pension Service or Age UK.

Severe Disablement Allowance which is being phased out, (it has been replaced by ESA - Employment and Support Allowncance) is for people up to age 65 while Attendance Allowance is for people 65 and over. Neither are means tested.

Did you start getting it before 2001? It may be they are just carrying on with people already on it as they phase it out. You can always contact the DWP to check.

Hi

if it is linked with State Pension

You will get one or the other but the benefit system is complicated as some will enable you to get other state benefits .

I would suggest making a appointment with benefits adviser at Age UK they will go through a benefit check with you .

Also help with filling in forms

Please don't try to do it alone .

Agree with Rose. Filling in the forms takes ages and there's a knack to it. At AgeUK they have the expertise.
