Many thanks for this Heron NS. Dexa scan or no dexa scan (Dr.didn't rise to the suggestion that I have one ) I'm defo.stopping taking Alendronic Acid which were prescribed for the combination of slight osteopenia and being on steroids which are at the "safe" dose of 5mg anyway. I did once hear osteopenia described as one of those non-conditions invented by big pharma to flog their wares.
This is a really interesting piece of research and one that anyone being advised to take this treatment should read carefully. Perhaps I could have avoided my two fractured femurs if it had been produced earlier. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you so much for discovering these reports. Had found it so difficult to find any published surveys
Everything that I read consolidates my instinct not to reconsider taking AA. Apart from the known possible risks, I also worry about the one size fits all, dosage. Should a petite 5`1 be flooding bones with the same amount as a large 6`3 male. Does the body automatically reject excess of any drug
I have to acknowledge that these reports were posted on the Patient forum by someone else, and as I am also a member of two communities on Healthunlocked I thought I would share. I can't take credit for finding them! But I agree, the findings certainly support my own decision to avoid these drugs like the plague. Of course with risk factors like small size and taking steroids one can't do nothing, so I've certainly been as proactive as I know how when it comes to nutrition and what I hope is the right kind of exercise.
I tried to take Fosamax...2 pills only before I was unable to swallow. Then, my doctor recommended the Reclast infusion. After I researched it, I said no way! I'm not going to take any of this stuff. The results are very poor and the side effects can be unbearable. I'll just take my chances....
