Is it AROUND your eyes or your eyes themselves that are sore/itchy? It may be a sign of dry eyes which could also be due to an autoimmune problem - possibly Sjogren's syndrome. Do you have watering eyes if it is cold or windy, or even just anyway? Ask your optician to check for dry eyes.

For the general skin irritation try using an emollient called Doublebase or Diprobase which are often used in eczema - if you have a friendly GP they can prescribe it as it is usually a result of the pred drying the skin. You can also use it for showering - avoid using soap or anything that foams as that just strips the natural oils out of your skin and makes things even worse. Don't use that around your eyes though. Ask the pharmacist for advice on eyedrops - although again a nice GP may prescribe something.

Like Suetum mine has improved at lower doses of pred.

I had gritty eyes which the GP said was due to the pred and gave me eye drops for it.

I had dry eyes and was given drops, this was when I was on 15 mg and since reducing (on the dead slow method now down to 11) seems to be ok

Hi there all of you , I have just finished reading Kate Gilbrts book PMR & GCA: a survival guide, and I took on her suggestion of baby shampoo! I thought my sight was deteriorating, until I read that the tears from your eyes can block areas around your eyes, where your eyelashes are. With cotton bud and baby shampoo rub into eyelash root area, several times a day. It doesn't sting or anything, and when rinsed out and dried my sight returned to normal. I passed this by my GP and said that was what I was doing, this had been on my list of recurring problems that I had taken to him, but when I told him what I was doing he had heard of this before and totally approved! Just a thought, might be worth trying!! Good luck!
