Has any one been diagnosed with Prednislone induced Avascular Necrosis?
I have just been told I need a hip replacement.

Although long-term steroid use can lead to bone thinning, so too can the bone-sparing bisphosphonates, which are often prescribed alongside steroids. They can also lead to necrosis of the jaw bone, and a few years ago it was recommended that anyone taking bisphosphonates should have a break from them after 5 years. I wish you well with the hip replacement.
Can I ask how long you've been on Prednisolone? Also, are you on biophosphonates?
Thanks for your reply. I have been on Prednisolone for two and a half years.
Dosage up and down with many flares. I was stuck on 15mg for a few weeks, then started Metrotrexate. I had not seen anyone on the forum getting Avascular Necrosis from the steroids.
Tomorrow morning I go in to hospital for aspiration (biopsy) under General Anaesthetic looking for infection of bone although I have no symptoms. Fever etc. there's no going back, only option is a replacement. I feel a bit angry that it has got to this with all the supposed monitoring. Thanks again.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I have never heard of Avascular Necorsis until you mentioned it. I hope everything went well for you and there's no infection. Please let us know how you are doing?
