Can Pudendal Neuralgia pain get worse when you're on your period?

Hi,

I was wondering if there are any women on here who have pudendal neuralgia and have experiened worse pain on their periods. My sister is has been experiencing pelvic pain for over 3 months now. And, she suspects she has pudendal neuralgia. (She does not have a diagnosis for anything yet, which is a whole other story.) During her last period she experienced extreme abdominal pain. She said her abdominal muscles felt very tight as though they were squeezing her to death. And, the pain did not get better until her period ended. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Can anyone give me any advice on what I should do for her?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I was 51 and still menstruating when I manifested with severe PNE. My periods were even more excruciating as a result. Prior to acquiring PNE I always had painful periods due to endometriosis that wasn’t found until I had a laparoscopy when I was 61 years old!

My PT had me using a wand and doing kegel exercises which actually made me worsen considerably.

My right pudendal nerve was entrapped in three places. I could not do a reverse kegel as a result.

Be careful.

My sister has not been diagnosed with pudendal neuralgia, but she is suffering with horrible pelvic pain. Over the past few months she has noticed that the pelvic pain gets worse the closer she gets to her next period and gets somewhat better when her period ends. Did you ever experience anything like this?

I got decompression surgery after 4 years of 24/7 torture. The burning pain was gone.

It’s taken years but I’m getting better all the time. I’ll always sit with 5/10 pain and lie down with 6/10 pain.

I’ve weaned off of 5 meds in the last six years. Instead of taking meds morning, afternoon and night I only take meds at bedtime.

I know I’m lucky to be alive.

Yes, my PN pain did get worse with my periods. But not everyone is the same. For you it might be "normal." Take care!
