Pain following cystoscopy

Hi all,

I was hoping you might be able to advise me on some pain that I have been dealing with, following a cystoscopy that I recently underwent on the 28 July.

I underwent a flexible cystoscopy after suffering from some minor urinary symptoms since November 2019, following an injury. While the cystoscopy itself did not identify any issue, during the procedure I found it to be quite uncomfortable, particularly as my prostate was being examined, where I tensed up quite badly. Since then, I have been suffering from a lingering pain around my tailbone/buttocks/anal region, and I am very concerned that I have developed some form of pudendal neuralgia.

The urologist who carried out the procedure (who is himself a Professor) claims that no injury was caused. Another has also claimed that any pain should settle down in about a month or so, and that lots of young men have this after having a cystoscopy.

In any case, I suppose I am putting the question here as I am obviously concerned about this developing into a chronic condition. Any advice would obviously be appreciated about what I can do to minimise any damage during this critical period.

Many thanks

Has anyone mentioned the possibility of an infection? Prostate infections are very difficult to detect in the absence of cystitis; the recommended treatment would be 4-6 weeks of ciprofloxacin

When i had the procedure done it was about 3 to 4 weeks before pain went away. But I agree with superzob about an infection. They usually list the complications before doing any procedures. Always ask for copies you sign when going thru a procedure so you know what to look for.
