Dynamic contraction technique

Does anybody have any experience having tried dynamic contraction technique? It is a method to release tight muscles through the use of eccentric contractions.

i'm intrigued.tell me..or is this technique just for guys..i just been diagnosed by physiotherapist with tight psoas muscle and now i have a herniated lumbar vertebrae..i have to believe that she is right as 7.5 years of undiagnosed pelvic pain is kinda frustrating.

It works

I am on the dct program. 6 months, approx. 1 hour per day, my perineal / sit bones pain has not reduced yet. There are a small but growing number of women, and one or two report success. Men with HF / ED seem to do best. There is not really any data on rates of success, or what conditions it resolves best, but there are certainly people who resolve their issues. I would recommend it, however it is hard work, and there is no guarantee it will work for every 'pelvic pain' condition. But at £250 it is a bargain if it works for you! It is like the 'Amy Stein' pelvic stretches on steroids.

Thanks for the information – very useful. How long do you plan to go before giving up? Are they giving you information regarding How long it can take before results become evident?

Hi - in my mind, I think another 6 months. The general advice from the course operators, and others actualky doing it , is to be patient, put in the hard work and allow 6-12 months, though I've seen some people report improvements after a month or two.

Also, Sit bones pain is one of my newer symptoms. Do you have a sense of what the basis of your pain is? For example, my pain is less if I cross my legs at the ankles. This seems to essentially “retract” my sit bones so that they are not as engaged when I sit. And if I put my hands underneath my buttocks, I can kind of feel them disappear when I cross my legs at my ankles. My physical therapist says that the entire condition is caused by my sit bones not moving properly so they are in the wrong position when I am sitting properly with my feet flat on the ground. And this is incorrect moving is ultimately caused by tight hamstrings and tight rotator muscles. We have spent weeks trying to loosen these muscles. This is why I am interested in the dynamic contraction technique methods.

in reply toPelviccrusader

I have no idea what causes my sit bone pain. Been told it might be pudendal nerve damage, I choose not to believe that. Might be tight hamstrings and thigh adductors, which the dct program works on. My hamstrings have loosened up a lot, adductors are taking longer. DCT is resistance stretching rather than passive stretching, and should improve muscle and fascia extensibility...the theory is that if all the pelvic prime movers are worked on in this way, the root cause of the pain will be addressed. Certainly works for some.

Ok-thanks for the information. One last question; does the program include methods for stretching the rotator muscles such as obturator internus and piriformis? These muscles have been a nightmare for me and resistant to essentially all treatments.

in reply toPelviccrusader

Piriformis yes, there is an exercise that applies resistance stretch to the glutes and the piriformis is felt - that is a sore exercise! The obturator internus is not specifically mentioned but I'm sure it will get worked. There are about 12 core routines, and another half dozen extras, they are 'instructor led' in video clips, plus there are some videos on the theory/approach. Then a closed Facebook group with about 250 members where you can ask for advice etc. It is a very positive FB group.

It works. I have excruciating Obturator Internus pain on one side and muscle tightness in other side. Have DCT for 3 days now, been amazing for my issues. I have tried EVERYTHING.

I have listened to the instructions and it makes sooo much sense! Also this is a simple technique but putting a tennis ball in the middle of your buttocks, one side at a time does help immensely! It's painful, and takes a few minutes to "relax" into it. Does help the priaformis muscle. Even on Pinterest there are several ideas on help.

I commented higher up that the DCT programme comes with a very positive Facebook group. This has changed dramatically...a new 'stakeholder' now administrates the whole thing...awful, lacking compassion, actions suggest only motivated by profit. A large % of the FB members left to join their own group...drove his own customers away. I won't go into details, but some of the posts/actions from the 'owner' are unbelievable.

Policy now seems to be...if DCT is not working for you, it is your fault, you are not doing the exercises...and I am throwing you out of the FB group!

Would I still recommend DCT? Dunno....it does work for some people, but the % is not high.

Still decent value at £250, tho expect to pay for upgrades in the future.

If it works, it would be the best money you ever spend, if it doesn't it will be some cash and a LOT of hard work....
