Hi all,

Can anyone remind me what the symptoms are? It has been many years since I had to take this.

Thanks!

Makes you lovely and relaxed, very sleepy at first but you will get a dry mouth. Very popular with people who need a muscle relaxant or have nerve pain.

Does it help with nerve pain enough?

Hi Pinky,

I found that this drug made me dopey and relaxed but when the effects wore off I felt very depressed and it gave me really bad thoughts. I stopped taking them and now take Pregabalin and Gabapentin. These do have a good effect and do not give me the same side effects. But not everybody is the same. If Amitryptiline is fine for you then that's good.

Good luck and I hope your health improves.

Pete

Hi Pete,

Thanks! Really appreciate the feedback.

I’m on gabapentin and thinking of going up again. What is pregabelin is it Lyrica? And can pregabelin be taken with gabapentin? What are the side effects and how do you take together?

Hi pinky,

I do not take them together, I alternate the usage. I have taken Gabapentin and currently I am on 3600mg a day. When the Gabapentin gives out on me as it has on a few occasions I switch to pregabalin (Lyrica) which is great but for the side effects. It makes me hungry all the time and I go snacking on biscuits, crisps, chocolate etc. When this gives out on me I go back to Gabapentin. I have to juggle the drugs to get relief.

How do you go back and forth? My doctor said I have to go off one to start the other so I never left the gabapentin but it doesn’t seem to do much. Do you stop and switch to a certain amount? How did you first start to try this?

Would love to try Lyrica but can’t go off gabapentin to do it

Thx!

My pain specialist changed me from gabapentin to pregabalin (lyrica) He said that gaba turns into pregab in your body so by taking the lyrica, it works quicker. I did put a lot of weight on though. I take it alongside many other medications. X

Amitryptiline was firstly used as an antidepressant it was then discovered to help with chronic pain i take it and i find it to be one of the most effective medications to manage my pain but i also take other analgesics you can get a dry mouth but your GP can give you a spray to keep your mouth lubricated but i find it good as it makes you drink more water which can only be a good thing.

It all depends on the dosage. For me right away I noticed dry mouth that would make cotton jealous & my sinuses slammed shut. So my PNE pain was maybe 10% better yet I couldn't breathe and o had the worst dry mouth ever. This was on only like 10mgs. After about four weeks the side effects got better. I seemed to like it better than tramadol because I didn't get headaches and my thoughts stayed clearer. Calms nerve pain in your body so it has a small relaxing effect. It didn't make me sleepy but I can see how it would for others.

The reason I stopped taking it was because I noticed after two months a ten pound weight increase. I'm a vegan and I eat the same exact foods everyday so I knew something was off. I went to my endocrinologist and he said my thyroid levels were off. Your body can't absorb sythroid on Elavil. So people with no thyroid should be aware of that.
