Hello everyone. I'm new here and I would like to ask if any ladies that have Pelvic Floor Dysfunction have experienced missed periods? My daughter turned 9 months old yesterday and I haven't had a period since June. Prior to June my cycle was all over the place. Thanks in advance!

Missed Periods and PFD
Hi Angela
I have PFD but haven't ever missed a period. I'm wondering whether it's more of a hormone related issue rather than a case of overly tight/loose muscles as you've mentioned that your baby has only just turned 9 months. I'd imagine that your hormone levels are still pretty much trying to stabilise themselves after having a baby even if they've been regular up until now. I know it's probably easier said than done but maybe ask your GP if it's possible to have a blood test to look at your hormone levels although it maybe that your GP refuses on the basis that hormones are known to still be erratic at this time. It's probably very frustrating but maybe wait until your next period and see if that's either late or missed completely as then you have more of a pattern and information that is useful for a doctor to asses. I don't know if you use a period tracker at all? I've used one in the past to record information for my GP on it and it allows you to record date of period and length, moods, fatigue etc. You can in some apps actually print the info off
Are you seeing a women's physio for your PFD?
Have you done a pregnancy test?
Not sure how PFD would interfere with your periods, as I would think that the muscles aren't involved in the ovarian function?. (I assume it affects your bladder and/or bowel control...?)
Best wishes.
PS I met a Bowen/Cranio sacral therapist who had a set of clay wombs!! One was the uterus at its smallest, after a period. The other was the uterus at its largest, just before a period. There is quite a difference in size... uterus almost doubles in size. And typically goes from 4oz (100g) to 8oz (200g), she said.
So likely to be an effect on pelvic musculature during the cycle, as lining of the uterus builds up in response to ovarian activity. (But not sure the muscles can prevent/disrupt the hormones and the period.)
Just for interest.
