Hair loss from Urso

Hi all! Has anyone had hair loss from URSO that re-grew when/if you stopped? I seem to be thinning more + my eyebrows are thinning. I'm wondering also if TUDCA also causes hair loss. Or if that may be a good alternative.

i lose a lot of hair but I grow a lot of hair, too. It doesn’t seem to look thinner.

Mine is super thin and fine, so any loss is noticeable. So annoying! lol

Hi, hair loss/thinning is a symptom of hypothyroidism (usually caused by Hashimoto's Autoimmune thyroiditis). Another hallmark symptoms is thinning of the outer 2/3 of the eyebrow. I would see about getting a full thyroid blood panel including an antibody test. Be well xx

Yeah. I keep getting my thyroid tested but it comes back normal. I don't think I've done antibodies though...

I have been on Urso for 20 years and have had no changes in my hair.

That's good!

Yes, my hair is definitely thinning from the Urso and I am not happy about it. But my last labs came back good so I think the Urso is working. I plan to stay on it.

I'm not happy either! But yeah, I don't do well off of it, so staying on it for now.

A bit of hair loss can come and go..don't stop URSO...sometimes it's the fillers in the generic brand ....ask to have generic drug manufacturer replaced with another compsny if it's a big problem

Thank you. I keep that in mind. 😁

I noticed some thinning and loss when I first went on Urso, but as my body adjusted to it my hair seems to have come back. It took about a year. I hope you experience the same rebound. Stay on the Urso.

That’s good to know it came back!

I lost a bit right at first. But that stopped and hair came back. Do not stop Urso because of hair loss. We can buy wigs if necessary. Urso is our first line of defense. What you’re describing, I don't believe is related to Urso. Go to a Dermotologist. Or an Endocrinologist b

My hair loss started about two months after I started taking urso and has continued to worsen for the past five years. I have seen multiple dermatologists, have checked and re-checked all labs, have excluded other potential sources. While I am sure other variables contribute to some degree, I believe this to largely be due to the urso. I am currently looking for alternatives, but there are challenges with insurance coverage. Obviously urso is an important medication, but for those of us with severe hair loss, I think it is reasonable to consider alternatives and trial those while closely monitoring LFTs. Dealing with the hair loss has been much more difficult than the PBC diagnosis itself. It is hard to understand if you are not personally experiencing it. Just wanted to post so that you know you are certainly not alone in this.

thank you! Yeah I’m still losing hair. Mine could be also due to stress, but the timing does correlate with the start of taking Urso. Sucks!!

Hi lost alot of here when I first started taking Urso. My doctor suggested taking extra folic acid. Which really helped. My hair has come back fully. And even thicker than it was before.

Hope this helps you!

it’s worth a try,

I've had thin, fine hair all my life, but it has really gotten noticeable in the last year. I've been on Urso for 2 1/2 years since I was diagnosed with PBC. Doctors have tested my thyroid and it was normal. Turns out I have hypoparathyroidism - I didn't even know I had a parathyroid. 🤷‍♀️ Not sure if this will help anyone else, but thought I'd share it. Good luck.
