I have an event and want to know if I can have one drink. I stopped drinking since I started the medication three months ago. Any advice.

Think that depends on whether your pbc is mild or not and the state of your liver. To be safe, best to check with your liver specialist. I can have a drink/drinks every now and then. But I don't do more than 2 drinks at a time.

that is a question to ask your Dr. Some will say yes some won’t. My Dr says no.

Hi Orange Tulip. As someone who has PBC and was on Urso, I haven't had a drop of alcohol since diagnosis. There were things in my life more important than alcohol so the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

I made significant dietary changes (cutting all gluten, most dairy, most artificial ingredients, prepared foods, fast food, soda). I also made major changes to my environment, eliminating fragrances and going with environmentally sensitive cleaning products, etc. I did NOT eliminate alcohol. Urso works for me and my fibroscan scores have markedly improved.

One thing I have noticed is my tolerance for alcohol has decreased. I do drink less, and I have to be very careful with hard liquor. I mostly stick with wine.

My doctor told me alcohol did not cause PBC and will not affect the progression of the disease. Obviously if your liver function is greatly affected or you have an addiction issue that could cause cirrhosis that is a different story. Also, if you need a transplant and you drink alcohol, you won’t get a liver. Would it be better to cut out alcohol completely? Absolutely. But that’s true for the entire population, not just us.

I originally asked my Dr 28 years ago ..he said pbc wasn't alcohol induced and an occasional drink drinks weren't a problem. I was a glass of wine a few times a week but since covid half glass daily and my numbers are great . Ask your dr.

I’ve always heard 4 oz of alcohol per wee is fine if you are eating healthy no additives, fish, egg, vegetarian , no milk, low salt diet

Unless you happen to be stage 4 and your dr has asked to to abstain. Moderation in everything works well

Depends on your liver function. Alcohol and other lifestyle choices will not affect your PBC, but can affect your liver.

I don’t drink regularly. Once a month or twice. I’ll have a beer or two or a glass of red with my mates or with my wife. My gastroenterologist said this is fine. I was diagnosed in 2013 and since I started taking Urso I’m back in normal rage for my AST/ALT.

I have had PBS for 28 years and started URSO for 27 when it was 1st available...I have. Never had more than 2 drinks in a day but have never drank more ....even at a wedding etc.. I have lived around the country and every liver specialist says no problem to drink occasionally but if you notice a reaction after a drink like immediate inching you shouldn't drinkHope that helps
