Alk Phos Levels: Can anyone tell me how high... - PBC Foundation
Alk Phos Levels
You mean In PBC or generally?
Lot's of different factors affect Alk Phos levels. It's high in many different conditions such as pregnancy
Well mine were very high in pregnancy and just after the birth of my second son went over 1200! now back to just under 300 after a year.
Hi, I have been looking all day but can't find any top levels...
Mine too went sky high in pregnancy when I was diagnosed, my levels were around 1400, took about 3 months post delivery for them to start to come down.
They are now in the mid to late 400's where they have stayed for about 1 year with the odd blip.
Hello.
Well the question asked was one I wondered about 2yrs ago and do know that results can vary with for eg pregnancy as mentioned on here as well as age.
I was having another look round the net and came across this statement from:-
labstestonline.org.uk
I clicked on a box that opened with regards to results and here is what it stated for this particular site ref on ALP:-
'Reference values are dependent on many factors, including patient age, gender, sample population, and test method, and numeric test results can have different meanings in different labs.
For these reasons, you will not find reference ranges for the majority of tests described on this web site. The lab report containing your test results should include the specific reference range for your test(s). Please consult your doctor or the lab that performed the test(s) to obtain the reference range if you do not have the lab report.'
It appears that is going to be scant but as far as I can gather I have heard of someone's being in the 1000's (of which I read in one of the newsletters (can't recall which now) all about liver diseases).
I think here it would prob be more helpful for this scale/graph that doctors use when plotting the blood results (LFTs and GGT) to see if the abnormal ones we encounter with PBC are still within what is considered the nromal range with PBC.
I have to say I don't bother anymore, I go with how I feel even if there is a slight glitch with my next blood results as have found in the last 12mths that in-between bloods I might have felt not doing so good to get a good blood reading and then when I have felt I'm exceptionally well they come out a bit worse.

Both mine and sarahq's was this high as in the replies above....
So I dont think it is that uncommon to have a big spike! But you are right there are just so many variations it just isn't really helpful to know x
At the highest my Alp was around 1200 if memory serves me right but that was during my last pregnancy. Mine usually sits in the 400's but recently since been off urso since mid August it has been between 740-800. Agree with others dont worry too much about it I am constantly told that the most important lft'!s to note are the albumen and the bilirubin levels these are best indicators of how the liver is doing. So just relax and let the dr's do the worrying.
When I talked with my Gastro-Dr. about my ALP being 200, he told me that is elevated & out of range (0-130) however, its not high compared to what he sees in patients frequently, which is in the thousands. he also said that most often the cause is a fatty liver. Then he did the AMA test, which was positive, & diagnosed it as PBC.
