can we still get piercings and tattoos if we have pbc
Oh to be that young and trendy to want such things..... Lol.
Lou
I am covered in piercings and tattoos! My back is completely tattooed and i am in the process of getting my arm sleeved. I also have Scleroderma, and am not really meant to get tattooed as its a connective tissue disease. But.....shouldnt be any probs with PBC, in fact if you're immune system is overactive you'll probably heal a bit better. I love mine and it makes me feel like i,m the sort of person i want to be, instead a mass of autoimmune probs.
I have piercings and no problems. Have pbc and aih.
Hey there, I have 50 percent of my body covered in tattoos...I have had PBC for 10 years and have had no problems...but I have to say that even though my immune system is super I do tend to take ages to heal properly so be carefull when dealing with the healing process and I also tend to get a high fever the first day after getting the tattoo but it fades if I rest. I have opted for the black/grey tatto work do to the fact that some colors can itch a bit and I itch fine without adding an exstra strain to the body :D...So all I can say is go ahead and get your tattoes and as for piercings...also have no problems there even though it took 3 months for my Septum to heal properly but if you are carefull and take care of your tattoes and piercings then you should be fine.
Well I did read some place that tattoos weren't recommended with PBC but I've never had any so can't give you my experience there. Was something to do with the blood mixing but hey if others on this site have mentioned they have had them with PBC then they will know better here. To add tho' I have no tattoos (yet - you never know! Keep an open mind and all that) but when I was 11 (I'm now 48) I had my ears pierced, still do.
Given we have needles stuck in our arms for bloods at regular intervals then a piercing wouldn't probably be an issue I'd say.
I know that my skin and any little nicks I get in day-to-day (paper cuts for eg) simply seem to be a whizz at healing. Also I have noticed since I started with the itch in 2010 and was diagnosed with PBC if I know I've managed to bump myself and expect a bruise at a later stage, for some reason if I do have one it's not like they used to be, anyone else noticed that they don't seem to go the yellow before they fade now? I did read up about this once that the bruise goes yellow at a later stage of healing as it is due to the bile, figures then.
Hi there i had 2 tattoos about 8 weeks ago and i hav'nt had any problems. I to have pbc and my auto ammume system is attacking my body, took i while to sink in but hey we go to live for today.GO FOR IT.XX
I have tattoos and like the others said go steady and healing can take longer! Look after your ink and rest! I have my pbc ribbon tattoo and it raises awareness!
I have had PBC for over two years and found that my last tattoo took ages to heal, so much so that I have not been back for part two and part three is also on hold! My tatt artist is great and was prepared to wait to finish it. Good luck with yours as you have to live for today
I too have tats and after being diagnosed my guy that does them said he would not do any more work unless doc's said it was ok to do , so i ask my GI and Primary docs and both have said it is fine i can go ahead with it :)) . Haven't had any problems till this one i am in the process of getting color put in but think it is something i myself did as far as after care but the tat itself looks great ! .
I had a tattoo 12 years and I occasionally find it goes very raised and itchy, a bit like i'm allergic to it. Not sure if it's to do with PBc though. I also dye my hair, which is not supposed to be advisable with PBc, and on the packet of hair dye, it says there is more chance of an allergic reaction if you have tattoos. Trouble is with tattoos, you can't have them undone if there is a problem, whereas you can always stop dyeing your hair. Piercing should be ok though.
So I got a tattoo done with my daughter, same artist, same after care and mines is way more faded, it looks like my body almost rejected it and pushed out the ink? I have kept it moist and clean, my daughters looks great...
