Bruising and swelling

I have on and off bruises that appear on my body as well as strange swelling under the skin which leads to stinging pain like sensations and an inner body heat. Does anyone else have this? My lfts are fine but I have elevated amas

Hi Nickyl I get the bruises and strange swellings under the skin that come up and can go down and I dont know why. They do get hot as well. I also get bursting veins that the DR assures me is just superficial. Like you I have elevated AMA but my lfts are now fine on URSO. Due to the difficulty of showing the DR these symptoms I took photos of them when they appeared and went armed with my photos but unfortunately they still couldnt explain it.

I can't begin to tell you how comforting it is to know that someone else has these strange symptoms - at times I have been made to feel as if I was a bit crazy. Do you think that the URSO helps with the swelling/bruises? In fact, have you found that anything helps at all. I was wondering if there is a bit of a food connection

I dont think URSO makes any difference to this. Ive noticed the swellings particularily around the elbow and on my lower leg area, I think it gets worst depending on how much I do: i.e. if I spend long on my feet my lower leg gets the swellings and if I do something like peel potatoes the swollen patches come up around my elbows. I bruise mainly on my limbs, and veins burst around my toes and fingers but I did get one on my abdomen once. Im afraid the doctors had no idea why this happens so can offer nothing to help. Food connection? I just dont know, I certainly dont have a good relation ship with food anymore as there are so many things that make me feel ill when I eat them. I did speak to my consultant about this and he said, listen to your body as there is bound to be certain foods your liver cant handle very well. Sorry not much help........

Many thanks for this. Its so strange isn't is but very annoying. I wondered if you had experienced thinning of hair as this is the other awful symptom that I now have.

Unfortunately I have the thinning hair as well, Ive also virtually stopped sweating, I would have said stopped completely but last week I managed a lady like glow! Apparently this is not abnormal in the autoimmune field of diseases.

What has your doctor said about these symptoms....

We should all remember that just because we Have PBC, it doesnt mean that every symptom we get is PBC related.

Any new or strange symptoms should always be investigated bya GP and shouldnt just be put down to progression of our illness.

My GP said it looks like it is having an effect on my soft tissues, and my consultant said in ref to bursting veins not really anything he can do to stop it happening. Personally I think they are still missing something. Ive asked GP to check thyroid again and vits etc, going for bloods next week and see if it turns anything else up. Had so many tests now and all come back negative.

I am in exactly the same position as yourself Val - in that every test comes back as being fine although sometimes my blood will show marginally low calcium for example, or low Vit K levels. I treat this myself really by ensuring that I take high strength multivitamins. The soft tissue thing is interesting in that my swelling like yours comes up on my arms and also on my legs - I get it just below my elbow and I've wondered is this my muscle swelling or is it the soft tissue. I just seem to be fobbed off as well you've got positive AMAs and you might have pre clinical PBC but we don't know anything else. Val would you like to exchange email addresses so we can communicate outside of this forum as it appears we have very similar symptoms. Weirdly too I also stopped sweating - how bizarre is that!
