In the UK its (from what i can deterimine on the path report sept 2011) umol/L <21 ....Mine is currently at 8 but when I look back at a 2009 path report the Total Bilirubin was umol/L 3-17 and mine was over at 24.

As far as I've read in materials from the PBC Foundation and elsewhere too, total bilirubin is considered "normal" belov 17 umol/L - international system.

In Romania they use more frequently mg/dl, normal values being considered between 0.2-1.2 (or 1.5) mg/dl.

But "normal values" might vary slightly from one laboratory to another. In Romania, in the international system, I've found considered as normal up to 25 umol/L.

That was a reply that I gave under the question "Bad Memory and Concentration" and I do not remember why I wrote it!!!! Says it all !!! From what I said I meant that I had visited New York a few years ago so not sure who mentioned New York, maybe someone else mentioned New York and I answered against the wrong question! x

Hi.

I live in England.

On my print-out of my bloods, my bilirubin states it is 14 and in brackets down the right hand side are the what are considered normal ranges (it apparently can vary a little between labs). The bilirubin on mine gives a 0-22 as normal.

Hi I believe it can vary from lab to lab and hospital to hospital but its normal range for where I am in Nottingham is less than 21. Mine is at 50 and keeps increasing slightly, no one exactly sure why x

I know this is an old thread, but I'm really confused.

I was recently in hospital and I'm just going through my discharge notes to try and get my head around it all. Nothing was really mentioned when I was in hospital and I was never kept up to date. Most of which that is on my discharge notes, I had no idea about and there's a few issues on there, a couple of them are pretty scary and worrying.

On my last blood test results there are a few issues that are highlighted in red, meaning there's some kind of issue and they are low or high. One of these issues is the "T BILI" (Total Bilirubin). My levels are at <5 umol/L and are highlighted in red with a star. Next the figures found, in another column, are the normal ranges, which on this occasion it states <21. So what I don't understand is if the "normal" range is under 21, then surely under 5 is ok? It doesn't state that there is a "low" figure.

Why would the hospital highlight this result, exactly as they have done with others that are wrong? I just can't understand it. The only thing that I can link it to is that it has something to do with the gallstones they found and my diagnosis of biliary colic/acute cholecystitis, as I have come across some research on my way to finding out the reasons behind this highlighted result.
