Macrophage
These are the scavenger cells of the immune system. They 'mop up' all of the bacteria and 'mess' left by an infections or tissue injury.
In the spleen, their job is to absorb red blood cells that have reached the end of their life so to speak.
In the liver, they are called Kepffler cells. They help to protect the body from bacteria that may have leaked from the bowel and has entered the portal vein. ( this is the large blood vessel that drains blood from the bowel)
