homemade soup for me, I think. My grandmother lived with us - she was the cook. I can still remember helping her cut her homemade noodles on the kitchen table.

As the winter nights drew closer and the chilly autumn nights made days shorter a childhood favourite was my mother's sausage stew usually a Friday night. Sometimes served with homemade dumplings other times a crusty cottage loaf.
