😊 The subject of taking supplements has come up recently. According to Dr. Jones' book, he feels taking supplements should not be necessary if we are eating a balanced diet. I agree to a point but I also feel sometimes we do benefit from certain things - a good multivitamin maybe for those who don't eat like they should for example.

There are so many 'liver' detox supplements on the market. Beware! If they worked, I'm pretty sure we would all be getting the 'ok' to take them from our own doctors.

Many over the counter supplements are not regulated by the FDA. If you are interested in taking something, do your homework. Take the bottle to your doctor appointment. Print out what you can for him/her to see about what the ingredients are. Some things do not mix -

Reminds me of my GP telling me never to take supplements unless prescribed by a doctor and I've gone along with that except for one, "Kalms" to take at night.

When in hospital about 18 months ago needing help with clots in my lungs I had to tell them about the medication I was on and mentioned Kalms. A pharmacist came to see me while I was there and begged me not to take them 😳was bit of a surprise but she wouldn't leave without me agreeing I had to promise her, she said they hadn't been certified for use. So I stopped. I've had problems with side effects from prescribed drugs more than once, was hospitalised yet again.

I was struggling a bit with sleep this week. I take one gabapentin at night and rather than take two I took the Kalms remembering the pharmacist (I think thats her job title) and feeling guilty.

I do agree about eating a good diet and not taking anything unless its prescribed.

I have to admit that most pharmacists are very smart folks. I encourage members to remember to ask them if they have any questions about a drug or supplement.

Hi I am very new to the PCB community being diagnosed two weeks ago and waiting for fibroscan and GP not really able to help much so have to wait to be referred to liver specialist with nhs ( I’m inUK). Can someone give me link to books or papers to read on PCB so I can be informed when I get face to face appointments and to help me stop worrying about this.
