MRCP - This is a type of body scan that examines the bile ducts in great detail. It uses magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Prior to this test, the examination of the bile ducts for gallstones or some type of blockage was done with the placement of a scope called ERCP. This was done by injecting the bile duct with dye. The big risk of doing so was to the pancreas, causing pancreatitis or even sepsis (overwhelming infection).
