documentary on Netflix about the gut

I just watched a very interesting documentary on Netflix called Hack your Health: Secrets of the Gut (or something like that). Scientists discussing the gut and the fact that a huge amount of our immune system is in the gut. They mentioned autoimmune diseases. It is, apparently, a huge area of research right now. I took some takeaways for myself which is to eat the rainbow! 30 different fruits and vegetables every week. Anyway it was very interesting

There is a Professor Tim Spector in the UK who is very interesting to listen to on this subject . Great to know that this is a large area of research

I do try to follow the 30 plants a week, this was something I learned from Tim Spector when I followed the ZOE app during covid. I remember this includes herbs and spices as well so not as daunting as you’d think, although I think my average came out as 21, but not that bad for a former sugar addict, which i finally managed to break after following this for a few months. This naturally improves your fibre intake and is good for your microbiome which I find interesting not just for gut health but the overall health benefits. I heard or read somewhere that we with PBC have a less diverse microbiome can’t reference that though as I can’t remember where it came from so it might be worth a bit of research.

Yes does include spices and things like chia seeds. I’m at 23 this week. Frankly I think the easiest way is smoothies. Can put a bunch of different stuff in there and blend. Also agree it helps break sugar addiction which is like the worst thing for inflammation! I’m going to try to keep it up, though I have a trip at the end of the month and travel can be hard. But that documentary inspired me.

Yes, I watched that and found it very interesting. I also have an autistic son, and I believe there's gotta be a reason all this stuff is on the rise. It makes sense!

I'll have to watch that. 'Gut health' is so overlooked in medicine, I think. I truly believe it can be the cause of so many health issues.
