I was diagnosed with PBC in 2000 and am doing relatively well with PBC (just little deterioration ). I have been on Urso since.
Has any of you with PBC taken Sulfasalazine... - PBC Foundation
Has any of you with PBC taken Sulfasalazine ( for RA). If so what has been your experience.? Thank you!
Hi unblock,I was DX with PBC in 2016. Have been doing pretty good on URSO. I had a lot of anxiety about the disease when I was first DX (diagnosed). That kind of stress wreaks havoc on the body. I actually developed full blown RA. I was put on Sulfasalazine and it worked great for me with no issues. I took it from 2017 to 2019. One blood test check-up at the end of 2019 showed elavated liver numbers. I wasn't taking any other drugs except URSO and Sulfasalazine. When they pulled me off the Sulfasalazine my liver numbers normalized. Only by Alk-phos was elavated (160). But what was truly surprising, was the RA didn't return. My doctor told me the Sulfasalazine put me into remission. I haven't needed to go back on it. I'm careful not to eat foods that trigger my arthritis too. I'm not completely pain free but it's nowhere near the pain level it was before. I don't need any drugs for arthritis today. So, Sulfasalazine worked for me. Just keep track of your labs (bloodwork) while you're on it to make sure your liver is handling it well. Hope this helps.
