Hi, do people with PBC describe their itch as itching or burning sensation. Mine seems to be a burning sensation especially my head and legs . Not sure if this is PBC related anyone have the same?
Itch or burning: Hi, do people with PBC... - PBC Foundation
Itch or burning
my itching is now controlled with medication but the memory of it is still very clear in my mind. In my arms it felt as if someone was slicing through the muscle or twisting it until it pinched, it would burn up to the surface. On my back it felt like thousands of hot needles piercing up from below. Even with the medication I often have a web like feeling across the jaw area of my face. The itch in my feet was rare but when it came I would dig my nails into the surface of the skin which did absolutely no good at all. My scalp would feel like it was crawling and burning but that has turned out to be another auto immune condition.
Itch is a well known symptom of PBC, I believe the PBC Foundation are still running a survey on people who itch. You may want to contact them if you are not already a member. It is free to subscribe although donations keep them afloat.
What other auto immune condition do you have? I have had awful burning sensation on my head and face . Which medication do you take for your itch?
I have pernicious anaemia (need B12 injections), lichen plano pilaris and rosacea which is an autoimmune malfunction - fortunately now resolved.
The medication for my itch was Questran (colestyramine) Rifampicin and Sertraline. There was a time I could not get Questran (awful stuff to drink) the itch returned and in the end I was able to add Gabapentin, so the mixture of these 3 drugs control my itch to a greater or lesser degree.
You could try an antihistamine such as Cetirizine (this was prescribed to me by the GP at the very beginning 2 tablets twice a day) this may help with your burning sensation.
May I suggest that you may a not of your symptoms and when you see the doctor you will have a daily record.
I have the burning sensation daily. Gabapentin helps the severity.
